Best way to get Rem 700 PPC boltface

Thinking about building Modified rifle for UBR by next spring...for. 6 PPC is it better to bush a 308 bolt or open 223 bolt ?

Sell your bolt and buy a ptg ppc bolt, is what I'd do. Ime though, a std 308 700 bolt will reliably pull ppc brass.

I just bought a 700 standard bolt face and it pulls ppc cases with the oem extractor rr prefix single shot action.

I have bushed a 308bf for a ppc and opened up a 223 and if done properly, both will work perfectly.

Sounds easy enough..I will have Gretan bush the pin hole and do the extractor and try it and if it doesn't suit me have it bushed later..I got till next March.

I've had them both ways..with the factory extractor as well as Sako and m16 style. They all work but my previous post was to point out that I've yet to see a Remington, with a good factory extractor, fail to pull even a too hot load. It does give less purchase on the rim but not by much.

I just bought a Borden action for a ppc and it came with a .480 bolt face. Asked Jim about it and he said he is doing the ppcs that way for years. I think its great. Gives options for other cases.

My Farley works with ppc and br brass I just didn't know what the Rem would do

You will need to change the Remington bolt to a Sako or M16 type extractor. It will then work with either ppc or br case heads.

Numerous posters have stated that the factory 308 extractor works for them. Have you tried it?

I agree with Mike on the PTG bolt. I had a 700 bolt that failed to pull a 6br empty at a match down at Jackies once. The second time it did it (at the same match) …….. In addition to swearing a lot...… I decided to go the PTG bolt route with a sako extractor. It hasn't failed once in 8+ years. Having a fail to extract is right up there with dumping powder in the action.... in my books anyway. JME. WD
