Best way to form 20PPC

Hi

Starting with 220Russian Lapua cases, what is the best method of formign cases for teh 200PPC, include what dies and which size bushing you use.

The dies I was looking at for loading are
20PPC Redding Comp. seater
20PPC Redding Type S NK
20PPC Redding body die or type S FL die

Now for forming, should I just get extra bushings, and is so, what sizes would you recommend?

Do I need a 22PPC die to do the forming.. using the bushing to size down the case?

I am interested in responses also as I will be forming some shortly and I am no expert on this. I have a Redding 20 ppc body die that takes it down to .240 OD. So I'm not sure what to use to take it the rest of the way for no turn necks. My gunsmith says one should not reduce the neck size with bushing type dies as the bottom of the bushing is rounded so the lower part of the neck doesn't get sized. He says one need to use a full length die. I checked into the RCBS FL die but it appears to form them too small for me. RCBS says the full Length Sizer has a .220 neck diameter. Die is set up for a .0105 brass wall thickness. That wall thickness seems to be small unless they are turned. I'm thinking with the forming, the brass will make the walls thicker, in the .012" to .014" range. One could have the RCBS die reamed out, I suppose. Unless I get a good idea here, I may just work with the gunsmith to come up with something or have him make me something.

I don't have a .20PPC, but I have formed .17M4 cases from .221 using a Redding .17M4 body die and two passes through a Redding bushing die. I split the difference in the neck diameter produced by the body die and the final neck diameter to find the intermediate bushing diameter. Worked very well with no lost cases. Accuracy with fireform loads was almost as good as with fireformed cases, less than 0.5") Since you have the dies why not buy an intermediate bushing and give it a try. I am working on a .20 BR project and plan to use this method to form cases. Vic

Well this is the way that I do it. I got a 22 PPC FL die and removed the expander button for the first pass. This will take it down a small amount. Then I use a 22 PPC Redding "S" die with .242 bushing, then .236 bushing to finish. If you are going to turn necks then you will need a smaller finish bushing sized to the amount of brass that you remove from the neck. Then load and shoot.

Hope this helps.
