i have used the filler method and definately don't care for that.... it doesn't seem to make a nice crisp shoulder.... i usually use the bullet weight i'm going to shoot except for the 22-250 i use a 55 grn. instead of the 50 grn....
i put a max load of powder (usually right up to the neck) but measured at max load for that powder.... seat the bullet.... load and fire.... brass prep before fire form...
i don't fl size.... turn the die out half a turn on new or once fired brass and not bump the shoulder.....
how do you fire form yours????????????????????????????

I will fireform using bullets that I have culled or won't use in LR shooting. I usually use Varget powder as it is fairly clean burning, and I jam bullets about .005 so case is square against bolt face. I never used the Cream of Wheat method, as I feel I need all the trigger time I can get. You are on the right track.

Neck up to 25 cal (or enough to create a false shoulder)in your instance, then partially neck back to 243 ,just enough to get a "slight crush fit" on an empty case, load and shoot. A tapered mandrel works great for expanding .

Well im about to be doing the same thing for my 260AI. I just picked up 100 pieces of winchester 7mm-08. I was going to FL size them with a cheap Lee die to standard 260 then load them on the higher side with 140gr noslers and fire form. then use a lee collet die for the necks and get a FL Redding 40 degree to do the occasianal resizing.

This false shoulder has me interested and i havent done any research on it. But instead of using a 260 FL die if i used the collet die i was planning on getting to make a false shoulder from the original 7mm neck.

How does this sound because it will be all new to me, both fireforming brass and necking the brass down.

Take the firing pin assembly outta the bolt, and neck your 7-08 down till you get a good snug fit on the brass. If the gunsmith chambered it properly, it should be a snug fit on 260 or 7-08 brass without a false shoulder. Regardless, now you've got a belt and suspenders approach.

Here's an example of making a false shoulder to fireform a 22 Dasher.

Same principal regardless of case used, but more dramatic in this instance.
