Best value LRF?

Ready to get a new LRF. My only LRF is a sig 800 something or other. It must be 15 years old.

Whats a couple best values in the 300 to 500 range these days? The use is prairie dog hunting.

Have considered ranging binos, but I can't do over 8x. All that leaves is some expensive leica unless you know something I don't? My favorite binos are 6x. I had 10x, but never again.

Save up a little more lunch money and get a used Terrapin X. They're 7X and will range out to 2K. I've seen them as low as 800.00, but are usually in the 900-1200 range. Terrapin is releasing a new set of ranging binos, so you'll probably see some of the X's showing up soon.

i had one of these and was able to range out to 1500-1800 pretty easy on hillsides and what not.

$470 (on sale here) would be in your price range.

i think i saw a pair of sig kilo 4k for $600 which would also be a great choice.

also maybe keep an eye out in the classifieds

I have the Leica Rangemaster 2700B I bought from Cameraland open box. It has been reliable, but I don't glass to the ranges much past 700 yds. I am amazed by how good the glass is and would buy Leica again based on that.

Thats good to know. The glass on what I have now is terrible. Like dark sunglasses.
