Best tracking Barrel Length

Is a 30" barrel plus a muzzel brake in a 17lb 6x47 too long for a good tracking rifle?What would be the optimum length?

You need to get all your components together first before you start worrying about barrel length. Alot depends on what action, which stock, plus scope, rings and bases.

My light gun in 6 Dasher can only run a 29 3/8" barrel.

But my 6.5-284 barrel is 31" long plus a Vais brake.

The optimum length would be at the distance the bullet starts to slow down in your barrel in stead of picking up seed based on the caliber you are shooting. I thought I read that it is somewhere around 29 inches. You need to contact a good barrel maker and ask the expert.

Like was said, it's center of gravity that determines tracking. Lead in the butt and the position of the forend stop are how you adjust it. I want to do some experimenting with scales to see how much weight is on the front and rear bags.

Right now I am going with the TFAR method.
