Best semi Auto rifle for the money

In my opinion. For the money it's hard to beat the accuracy of the Savage MSR Recon unless you spend 2 to 3 times as much money.

Somebody just listed a 7600 Rem in the want ads....Amish auto loader!!!
I know OP said auto, but I never had problems with that rem pump like I had with the rem and browning autos....
and the pumps seemed to be fairly accurate...I said that loosely...

looking for a reliable, and tough semi auto preferably under $1500. Because I live in Cuomos communist NY AR’s are out of the picture. Primary use will be hunting whitetails, going to put a red dot on it to make it a brush rifle. Lighter weight rifles are a plus, prefer synthetic stocks as long as they aren’t flimsy like Tupperware. Leaning towards 30-06, no particular reason just wanted something different (already have 6.5, 243, 308).

I'm late to this party, but you had me when you said "for the money". All three of these rifles didn't add up to $1500.

These girls are enough gun for most whitetail killin, tough as they come, and still cheaper than most any auto you'll find. AND since you live in a communist area, what better than a commie battle rifle.

They can be modified to fit your needs, and a red dot sight would work great.

They also look old school enough with wood and steel, that communist snow flakes might not perceive them as "evil killing machines". jd

M1 Garand. Mine cloverleafs at 100 with factory ammo. If it was legal to hunt with in PA I certainly would. The majority of our shots on our farm are under 150yds
