Best Scope for Benchrest 1000 yrd HG

Building a new 300wsm heavy gun for 1,000 yard bench rest. I would like to have a scope that allows visual of bullet holes at 1,000 yrds. Currently using March 10x60x56 HM on my light gun but it doesn't quite show the holes. (I know it relevant only when there is no mirage)

Have you tried the March 8x80?

Conditions are going to have to be perfect to see holes at 1K. I have seen them a few times with the 8-80 but they were like little tic marks. Even with the best high-end spotters it is a crapshoot. If this is for practice I would suggest a target camera.

You'll never get there with air conditions except maybe at dawn 2 or e days a year.

Even in perfect conditions, there is Dawes limit that is the theoretical limit for resolution by perfect optics in perfect conditions. It is expressed as:

R = 4.56/D D in inches, R in seconds of arc

So a .308 hole 1000 yards away about 1.8 arc seconds. Plug that in and you see the theoretical limit for resolution in perfect conditions needs a 2.5" diameter objective--larger than 60mm.
