Best release agent for Devcon???

kiwi is good but the easiest is hornaday's one shot...way cheaper than Brownells spray and works just fine with Devcon or any other epoxy

no I Don't use it as a case lube...

Johuson Paste wax or Carnuba Wax works great and a can will last you years. I apply it with an old tooth brush. Fills in screw and gas ports too.

Ive used butchers wax with very good results as well as kiwi. Years back i bedded with bisonite it came with a liquid release agent I suspect naptha with something dissolved in it it worked great and was easy to apply when it dried it was ready to go. I tried a dry silicon mold release one time id did not work well at all for me and would only recommend it for glue ins

I just tried Kiwi the for the first time with JB.
Thanks to all who recommended it in this thread.
Works better than all the other concoctions I've tried over the years including the release agent that comes in the kits.

I've found that you can buff Kiwi down to a really, really thin layer and still have it work perfectly. The more you think about it, anything but the thinnest possible release agent is holding you back.

I'm going to throw a can of mold release agent into my next McMaster order and see what happens.

I want to clarify my post The mold release did not work for me. Im not sure why and perhaps your results will be satisfactory it would seem that it would work out fine but it was UGLY for me

I use Hornady One Shot. Coat thoroughly, let dry, coat again. Worked everytime, but I've only bedded 5-7 rifles that way. Previously used kiwi shoe polish. It worked too, but One Shot is easier to apply.

Been using this for years. I've bedded at least 8 stocks using various compunds/epoxies with it and never had a problem. It's easy to use, cheap and a can will last you forever. Apply one or two thin coats and let it harden/dry before bedding. It works so well I don't even bother putting a layer of blue painters tape on the front of the recoil lig any longer.

I bought a case of aerosol Slide brand mold release called Epoxease a couple of years ago - price worked out to be just under $7/can in case (12 cans) quantity. Item no. is 4061T. This stuff works exceptionally well - after years of using Johnson's Paste Wax, I've switched because it's so darned easy compared to applying & buffing wax. I have no idea how long it'll take me to use a full case of this stuff - it doesn't take much to do the job. But I don't think Slide will sell in less than case quantity. I sold a couple of cans of it to friends who're also gunsmiths, and will be taking a few cans to sell at our local gunshow.
