Best release agent for Devcon???

The title pretty much sums it up. i am trying to find out what i should use as a release agent when i bed my stock with Devcon. Thanks for any help.

I use neutral shoe polish. Never had a stuck action. No need to put it on thick. Just make sure that you cover all surfaces exposed to the Devcon and give it a light buff to remove excess.

I use an industrial grade "Mold Release" made by Libby. Check with industrial supply houses in your area (like Graingers or McMaster-Carr). Works great and in an aerosol can too...

Any of the products suggested will work as will CLP, Pledge furniture polish, any paste furniture wax, WD-40, etc. if you don't do this often enough to warrant buying something you'll never use up.

Remember to fill any threaded holes (any open holes in the area to be bedded, actually!) with something like modeling clay or paraffin / candle wax before you apply the release agent.

+1

Kiwi neutral is great.

Brownells spray on release. Spray it and bedding will not adhere to areas sprayed with the release agent. Amazing stuff.

PS - Shoe polish works very well for cheap...just a bit more hassle than pushing a nozzle on a spray on release. Would have never found this stuff if not left by a dearly departed friend. Now I see the light on how well it works!

I've used everything imaginable over a lot of years, and Kiwi Neutral shoe polish is as good as it gets............

I have used Kiwi Neutral shoe polish with good results. I apply two coats and polish well after each one. Also use it to coat any threads which may get Devcon in them.

Kiwi sounds like its the way to go, and its sold pretty much everywhere. I have WD-40 already but i dont want to take any chances, will WD-40 give me any problems?

WD-40 is a high-solvent content lubricant, may not leave as robust a release film as a coat or two of Kiwi. Wax is always going to be a better choice over a liquid of any kind, but may require more attention to application to avoid unwarranted build-up.

I've used CLP successfully as a release agent but prefer paste furniture wax.

I used WD-40 once. Broke the stock trying to pull it free of the bedding. Never again for me. I use Brownells in the spray can. It is expensive but still cheaper than a new stock.

Just did one with your ideas. Sprayed Pam on top of Kiwi Neutral Polish.

Just figured the Pam would help IF I missed anothing with the polish and get down into the trigger in case something ran.

When done I turned the stock over and the barrelled-action literally fell out.

HOORAH!

Seems like you had plenty of clearance when it had set up then....
if it was a solid enough job you would have to wiggle it out of the stock...
I always take the trigger off before doing any bedding, it's just one more spot to possibly hang up...

I think i will spend the $3 for the Kiwi. I have also planned on taking the trigger off. The only thing i am waiting on is that i figured i would get the action Cerakoted before i bed it.

For those of us that use Kiwi shoe polish: once applied, do you buff it to a sheen or do you apply it and leave it in its dull state?
