Best Rear Bags for F-Class?

flexible

Silver $$ Contributor
Hi everyone, flexible here. Got my F class rifle last week and it works great 'up-front' on my Raptor rest but the rear is unstable, lots of canting and not stable enough.
Stock is a McMillan Kestros
The recoil pad is 1 1/2 wide at maximum and I think it needs something with big ears like a SEB big foot.
Any suggestions?
thanks

Another option could be Dima ( Dima Rifle Stocks). They make rear bags. Various heights and a wide range of ear spacing from 10mm to 32mm.

I've shot off nearly every rear bag made for F Class. I currently use Dima but that's because they fit me well and suit my style of shooting. There's no one best bag because people shoot so differently. I know people who can't use anything other than their Seb, Dima, Protektor, Edgewood etc because that bag fit them and their stock perfectly AND allowed them to build a solid position that was repeatable.

Edit: And don't ever underestimate the importance of buy a bag with the correct ear spacing for YOUR stock. I'd rather take the worst bag with the perfect ear spacing over the best bag with the wrong spacing.

I use a Lenzi rear LR bag and it's been the best rear bag I've ever owned and used - very stable even on spongy grass. Dima also makes some very nice options.

How do you figure your correct ear spacing
Traditionally you'd measure the width at the base of your keel although some of it may depend on how the stock is shaped. Most manufacturers use a standard size like 5/8" or 3/4" for F Class and from what I've seen (but I'm no expert in it), benchrest keels can be narrower like 3/8". But you'd be amazed how different a 5/8" keel for instance shoots in a 5/8" ear bag vs. a 3/4" bag even though it's only 1/8" difference. The ear measurements with most bag manufacturers is in reference to the stitching width at the bottom of the ears.

true dat

I used to buy half a dozen rear bags and start filling them one at a time

kept the 2 that fit the best and sold the rest

worked for me and cheaper in,the end as I found what I needed to compete and enjoy the time of competing without fighting the equipment or wondering where that shot came from

so losing a hundred bucks off the get go was CHEAP in comparison to the costs of travel and therapy
