best primers & bushing?

Hi guys finaly sourced some dies & some old boxed lapua brass!

I didnt have a suitable bushing from my 243ai as i was using a tight neck 270 with a 266 bushing!

I guessed with my 272 necked chamber a 268 bushing woulndt be a mile away from where i want o be?

sound close to be going on with?

aslo i see a fair few mentions of cci 450's!would these be suitable for vit 133 140 & 150 powder?(as they are mags)

I was thinking ill use the BR cci & fed primers but was wondering the pros & cons of all of the above!

many thanks Andy

You really need to let the rifle decide that... but the Russians are doing really good... and the price is a plus...

I am not remotely qualified to answer your question but can add numbers.

Would think the size bushing to choose would be dependant on the thickness of the brass in your case neck. Other than fitting into the .272 chamber, your neck tension would not have anything to do with that size.

Bullet diameter is say .243". Then if the brass is say .013" thick, you put that together (brass on each side) and you get .269". Only thing is that would not hold the bullet in the neck.

You would have to go smaller than .269.

If, as stated, there is .001" spring back, you would need a .268" bushing just to get the inside to .243" and touch the bullet. Now how much more pressure you want is your decision but my guess is at least a .267" bushing to get something to hold.

Your loaded round will probably be about 0.269-0.2695.

Suggest you get a .268 and a .267

We recently tried this will some 6BR necks. Interestingly, we found that a .268 bushing, after springback, ended up .2685 and worked very well. Also get a 0.267 to provide more tension if needed.

Your bullet seating depth with help dictate what bushing you need. If you see long bullets pretty deep, start with the .268, otherwise start with the .267.

I have some of the old Lapua that I'm loading for the first time. Loaded round is right about 0.269. I use a .267 bushing, and I am getting about .268 on a resized case before loading. Not sure I would go any lighter for neck tension. I decided to unload a round at the range a couple of days ago that was jammed .015". Bullet did not come out of the barrel, but of course the powder went everywhere. What a mess...

Thanks for your replies lads!

I went for a 268 when i ordered teh dies & loaded its coming out @ 269 on the nail!

they are beonde finger presure so ill have a go & see how it shot!

i dont have a 267 bush but have a 266 so well see wht happens i may give that a try:-P

cheers again Andy

I take it that it is a 6BR? If so, I have also found the Red Russians work best in the smaller cartidges, up to Dasher length with powder no slower than Varget. CCIs for anything with slower powders and longer powder column.
