Best Precision Reloader

...I did not like the primer fed on the 650 which caused me the buy the 1050s which are sewing machines but overkill forprecision....

What issue(s) did you experience with the xl650’s rotary primer feeder? Mine has worked well for nearly 20 years...

Before you write off your current press because of some movement in the turret head, check to see if there is a bushing around the bolt that holds the turret head on. The Redding press uses this method, and the bushing limits the bolt’s ability to tighten down. It might be as simple as shortening the bushing, to achieve a tighter fit of the turret head.

In all seriousness, there are lots of methods that work for high accuracy. When I did the 1k BR thing in the mid 2000s I jammed my bullets .010 and used heavy neck tension. I also seated everything on my Forster CoAx with Redding Bushing dies (the Newlon didn’t work out so well for me) and managed a few screamer groups and group agg wins. I doubt a hydro seater would have made any difference then. I am also not sure all the other expensive reloading stuff I have acquired in my comeback since last year. I WOULD like to think my new and improved precision reloading HAS made a difference, but who knows.

For me this is all about a fun escape from serious crap and getting butt hurt over differences in opinions on how to load just ain’t my thing.....

I hated the way it progressed an unused primer into a cup to capture it rather then stay in the primer slide like a 550, 1050..caused extra time to process. Was advised against it by a DILLON Dealer-who is well. Known in competition handgun world. I was a DILLON Dealer for5 years myself and appreciated the advice. That said, if you like your 650, then don’t change as it’s still a damn good machine. DILLON runs 650 ads 4-1 over other machines and hence their big sales numbers...Imho

I use the latest rock chucker supreme and the Dillon 550c both are just fine to me.... Don't forget about the Dillon basic loader , it's a 550 that can be upgraded but comes with out the powder thrower and priming system.... Personally I think it's personal preference anymore....

Time does fly, especially in the later years... the XL650 was introduced in 1992, now past its 25th birthday!

I've always used my grandpa's rockchucker 2. You'll have a hard time convincing me that anything will reload better ammo. Dies, not presses, make good ammo. Buy any press you like, then invest in good dies made to fit your chamber.

Any brand press that is “straight” will load accurate ammo’ after that it becomes the question of which expanded options might make a press more user friendly. I like the Harrell’s 4 hole because it is straight, it’s compound linkage essentially double seats bullets, I can remove the die head in a second and leave the preset dies for a caliber change, I can attach it to any bench in minutes...all personal taste... the 550b saves a ton of time for large batches and also allows die head changes...

I used an RCBS Jr for many years with no issues. Bought a T7 five years (or so) ago, and it has been flawless. The slight tipping is not a problem. Barlow

That is my only question and dislike of a turret press if there’s any deflection in the turret it just seems like it would definitely cause concentricity issues in your ammo

Wilson F/L bushing type dies are excellent quality, minimum sizing and can be purchased at Brunos for a great price.

There are a lot of variables that need to be answered such as do you turn your necks this and that start with Redding and you can’t go wrong as far as bushing or non-bushing depends on your chamber whether you turn your neck’s etc.
