Best powder trickler

I currently have a RCBS trickler and it's just ok imo. Is there anything made with a heavier base and maybe the stem mounted in quality bearings to smooth it out some. The plastic retaining sleeve moves too easily for me on the RCBS trickler. I would like one that when empty you could spin the stem and it would keep on spinning for a while.

+1 Gonzo the Omega! Or do like I did years ago, Fill the bottom with lead. And try a small piece of shrink tubing.

I'm not really wanting an electronic trickler but filling the bottom with lead sounds like it would help a lot along with some silicone to help with slipping. I try to trickle one kernel at a time onto my tuned M5.

Omega is best by far easly one kernel a time if that's what you want.
Easy to trickle and look at scales at the same time.

If you want just a simple one that works great, buy the Redding. It is heavy and will not tip so no need for lead. It works well enough that I never consider and electronic one.

For "one kernel at a time" control and simplicity, I recommend the Omega Powder Trickler as well.
They are highly adjustable units to make any size ball, kernel, or granule to trickle one at a time, or at any flow.

I use the Omega to get within a few kernels of powder, then I pick up kernels off my reloading desk with a pair of tweezers and throw them in the pan.

After using one at Williamsport, I purchased the Omega. The tweezers were a pain with ball powder anyway. :P

Very basic, but an upgrade over the RCBS in my opinion. It uses an e-clip to hold the tube instead of a plastic retainer and it is heavier than the Redding. Doesn't wobble at all.....

+1 Redding is the Cadillac of tricklers

If you don't want to go "lectric" buy the II upgrade for your RCBS. The base adds weight, has adjustable height plus you have the option to level the discharge tube or angle it down slightly via four set screws. The increased tube length also gives us fat fingered types more room to put the pan on and take it off. With it angled downward slightly adding one kernel of powder is easy.

To give you an idea here you can just see the end of the tube to the right of the pan ....

My biggest gripe about my RCBS trickler is that it has too short a "snout". I use a digital scale under the RCBS Powder Dispenser,Trickler, Stand combo and drop the powder into a container on a digital scale. The "trickler" built into the combo sucks on it's best day so I'd like to be able to set the regular RCBS trickler up next to it and use the better one. I first need to add an extension so it's high enough and then lengthen the tube. Maybe a straw?

OR

Just get an Omega for that last kernel or two.

RCBS make a heavy, adjustable height trickler base and tube extension that come together for a ridiculously low price. On the weight of the trickler, pour the base full of lead, let it cool. With a slight rap on your bench (or even without) it will fall out due to the built in draft and smooth finish. Then use some epoxy to secure it in position within the base. I did this almost 30 years ago. http://www.midwayusa.com/product/210154/rcbs-powder-trickler-conversion-kit
You can secure the little plastic ring to the tube with a tab tape. Leave one end sticking out so that you can easily remove it. Next question ;-)

RCBS makes an upgrade kit. Lengthens snout, high, weight. Also Hornady makes a fancy one, Lock & Load Quick Trickle, gear driven, $120.00 Item #050101.

On the RCBS trickler,

Lightly dimple the inside of the base in 3 places,
clean the inside of the base, and fill with wheel weights that have been fluxed clean,
use HD "O" ring to replace the plastic collar,
and if you want a longer tube, get a piece of thick wall alum tubing,
and use the correct sized tap, and thread the inside of the tube, all the way to the fill hole,
plug the feeder hole on the turning end to feed the powder out,
run a clean bore brush against the thread to smooth up threads, etc.

I would have to check the tap size again to be sure of the size RCBS used,
IIRR it was a fine tpi.

Don

I have used the RCBS and it works well. The reason I purchased the Omega is a much more comfortable arm position for trickling. I don't have to reach. Much easier on the lower back when loading a large number of cases.

Cheers!

Redding is very heavy for its size. I like it and using it in combination with a scoop I can measure quickly. If I were shooting more I would try an Omega.
