Best powder for 7 Rem Mag

One more for R22. It is not a temp sensitive as everyone would have you believe- at least not at cool-hot temps. Have no idea about COLD weather as Phx doesn't seem to get much of that!!

I hunted with Re22, 180 gr VLD in 2010, but in 2011 I switched to H4350, 150 gr BT.

I do feel that 7mmRemMag is the best cartridge for me.

+1 on 7977. Cloverleafs at 100 . 71 graIns , cci mag primers and 140 gr. Accubonds. A little less copper wash but a lot more soot!

++1 for 7977. Exceptional with 168 weight class in 7RM.

H1000 is a great powder too.

Don't overlook RL19, especially in lighter weights.

Call me crazy but IMR 4064 w/139 gr is very accurate and turns your 7 mag into something in between 7-08 and 280. Pleasant to shoot if volume shooting ever becomes something you desire to do with your new rifle. MUST use a magnum primer with these.

Best of luck.

I forgot to mention that I prefer temperature stability as I'm looking for 1 or 2 loads to use year round for hunting. Thanks for the imput.
For hunting a very good choice is the 110ttsx barnes, out to 500yds. If you do a ballistic comparison you will see what i am saying. Speed overcomes bullet weight! Less flight time. More penetration. No lead fragments, less recoil. For powder i like slow ball powder that fills the case like ramshot (Magnum) or( LRT )

Just got a new rifle in 7 Rem Mag and I don't have any experience with the 7 Rem Mag so I'm starting from scratch as far as powder goes. I plan to use 160-170 gr. bullets, probably Hornady SSTs or A-max and am wondering if anyone has any recommendations for a load that works well for them with these or similar bullets? In doing a quick search of Hogdon's site, I noted that Rotumbo produces as high a velocity as anything listed but did it with considerably less powder. I take that to mean, perhaps incorredtly, that cases and barrels may last longer too and that's a good thing. Any thought/tips appreciated. Oh, the rifle is an Weatherby Mk V Accumark with 26" tube.
I have found that most 7rem mags factory barrels like imr 7828 with 160 grain bullets.

Don't know about the temp stability thing, as I don't pay much attention to that. I have used Re 25 behind a 160 Partition, at 3000 fps, to kill a number of elk over the years. It is fantastic. Re 33, also works very well with the heavier bullet and I have gotten over 3000 fps, from my 26 inch barrels, using 175-grain bullets.

I've seen a little more velocity with other powders, but best overall accuracy has been with H4831 or the SC version.

I load for 10 different 7 mags all are remingtons. all loads are 68grs h-1000 behind 180gr bergers and we shoot them in 90 degree to below zero with zero problems.

RL-22, for the longest time, was THEE powder for almost ALL bullet weights in the 7mm Rem. Mag. I used it almost exclusively during "the hunting season" with no problems. If you are really concerned with Temp-Sensitivity, the NEW Viht powders are supposed to be very temp stable and from preliminary reports, they are! I would seriously consider VV N165. Just about right on top of RL-22 in burn rate. VV N560 would be another excellent powder, that is very close in burn rate to H4831sc..

I have had perfectly acceptable results using surplus WC870 in the 7 Mag with the heavier bullets. 175 grains and up will sing with this powder and I don't think you can get enough in the case to get you in trouble, pressure-wise. 175 grain Sierra GK pushed by a case full of this powder is good medicine for just about anything in North America and it shoots very well out of my rifle. I took my 7 Mag out a couple of weeks ago to check zero - it didn't take long. The first two shots out of a clean, cold bore were 1.5" high at 100 and they cut a hole about .45" across. That should work for a long range deer and elk rifle.

I do not want to post my specific load information with respect to powder charge as WC870 is NOT commercial-grade powder (there are mountains of surplus WC870 out there) and there can be significant variation in burn rate from lot to lot. If you decide to give this powder a try, please work up to a proper load in your rifle. Unlikely that you'll encounter pressure on any load that will allow you to seat a bullet with reasonable consistency, but I stand by my caveat.
