Best Powder for 6mm BR?

Out of the many different powders available for use in the 6mm BR cartridge which are the most popular and why do you choose to use certain powders? Also between benchmark, reloader 15, 45 95, and varget which has been found to be easier on barrel erosion?

Hi Mark:

I have put nearly 5,000 rounds through two 6 BRs, both with 1:14 barrels. IMHO you can use Varget or wish you were using Varget ... the others are all also-rans.

Did have a few decent loads with 55-gr. using Benchmark, but could easily match or beat them with Varget.

I have no knowledge of barrel erosion. One barrel has 2,300 rounds and the "new" one has 2,200 and they both still shoot better than I do. I get some copper in the throat area so I presume they are "fire-cracked", whatever that means, but still shooting.

Varget is, indeed, an "extreme" powder and very insensitive to temperature/humidity, etc. Also, I shoot nothing but Danzac coated bullets.

Good shooting ...

I have had good luck with Varget, Norma 203B, IMR4895. Jackie Schmidt preferred RL15 and H4895 over Varget.

Norma 203B is very similar to RL15, but maybe ever so slightly faster in burn rate. Right now, with most barrels, it looks like RL15 may be the velocity king for the heavy 6mm bullets. It works best in the high pressure ranges. This means you'll have to adjust your load for winter vs. summer.

I am shooting Randy Robinette's 95 BIB bullets in mine and I like RE 15 a little better than Varget. Randy told me most of the 6BR shooters he knows use RE15.

I agree RL15 is a good powder with the 6BR, but I still feel there is an advantage to the "extreme" qualities of Varget.
