Best powder for 22-250 7.5 twist

I'm having a full custom 22-250 built for fox & coyote hunting and with the 7.5 twist Barrel I'm planning on shooting Nosler 69gr. Custom Competition bullets.

A good friend gave me his load of 32gr. of 3031 that he claims shoots great out of his 8 twist, my only thought is my current 55gr Sierra Spitzer 22-250 load is with 37.5gr. of H380 (Factory 12 twist shoots amazing) and the Nosler load data states that H380 is the most accurate powder tested, but they didnt test 3031.

My question is does anyone have any first hand experience with fast twist 22-250 and or either of these powders with 69gr. projectiles?

Thanks

Your wasting your barrel with that bullet. Your barrel is designed for 90 gr bullets. The 69's work great in 1 in 12 barrels. I loved them when I was shooting the stock savage barrel on my 22-250. They worked great even out to 1000. I now use the Sierra 90 gr in my 1 in 8 twist with great success. I use RE-23 also with great success. The best buy on the 90's is either at Bruno's or Bullets.com.

What BigGuy said is correct. Here are a couple of other thoughts.. 1.) Your 7.5. driving those 69gr. pills at 3400+ can and will blow them up with extended fire, i.e. a hot barrel.. and 2.) you SHOULD be looking at 90grainers BUT will you have enough freebore to handle them? That is one BIG question. Let's assume for argument's sake you have the PROPER freebore for the 90's, RL-16 would be perfect.. However, if you NEED to shoot the 69's, I would consider either Varget or RL-15. If by chance you still have some IMR 4007 on hand, that would be absolutely perfect!

I don't have to shoot 69gr. I just prefer it because I have 1000 of them. Im not sure about the freebore because i dont have the gun yet.

Are 7.5 twist that much different than a 8 twist? If my buddy is shooting these with the 8 twist great why wouldn't my 7.5?

I'll try some 90gr. Once I find out if I'll have the freebore to shoot them.

I'm doubt I'll get the barrel hot hunting fox & coyote but boy would that be a good problem?

You will have to get the 90's UP to speed because a "straight" 7 twist would be better>>>but at 3200f.p.s. they should be good. I think the twist can be a "breaker" because an 8 twist is pretty stout for the 69's, let a lone driving them up at 3400+ in a 7.5.. A 9.5 twist is fine for the 69's. Going faster by going to a 7.5 multiplies the R.P.M.'s considerably! BUT as you say, going after Fox and such, it is doubtful you would heat the barrel up at all! That is in your favor..

If freebore will allow the 90's they may work at .22-250 speeds in a 7.5" twist. I tried in my .22-250 8" twist and it shot terrible.

80gr Amax or ELD may also be worth looking into. I had fantastic results with the 80gr Amax in my 8" twist.

I SHOOT 80 AMASx in my 9 twist 22-250, just love them. Use H4350 and that works well. But with a 7.5 twist I'd be shooting the 90's and 80's not the 69. First of all the BC on the 69's doesn't flow well for coyotes, too much drop and wind effect. just my 2 cents IMHO.

It seems to be available intermittently, RL 17 or RL 16 have about the same burn rate, For that bullet weight, if you want to try H4831 it might work.

I have actually had fantastic results with R17 in my heavy barrel savages with 12 twists and the 69gr Match King. I even found it to be much more temp stable in that cartridge vs other larger ones I have tried it in. The same load shot equally as well in mid summer temps as it did in colder winter conditions and I have pretty big temp swings here. 105-110 avg temps in summer and lows in the winter mornings below freezing. Magneto speed showed 3370 August of last year and 3348 in January with the same half moa or less accuracy. I have worked up loads in other .22-250s as well with R17 and they all seem to like it.

I would try some 75-80g eldm. Try h4831sc or h4350, rl16, rl17 right in them burn rates should work good. I'm shooting a
22-243 with an 8 twist using 75g amaxes h4831sc getting 3560 fps and great accuracy.

Ok so I'm going to try the 69gr Nosler with some 3031 & some 77gr. Sierra with some RL16, but my issue is I cannot find any load data for the RL16 with the 22-250. Any help is appreciated.

The good news is I picked up my gun Friday evening I think it's the most gorgeous rifle I've ever seen, all I need now is Stainless bottom metal. The specs are
Remington action trued, 26" #3 Brux 7.5 twist, Remington factory 700 Laminated stock (this is from the first rifle I purchased for my son), Jewel trigger, Vortex Viper PST Gen.2 5-25x.

In my 7.5 twist 22-250 Ackley I found RL 23 and H 4350 to be great for accuracy. Reloader 23 giving the best speed. 75 and 80 gr Amaxes.

I run a fast twist 22Creedmoor which has a little more case capacity so not sure if results would be equal. But I have tried pretty much all the powders mentioned above with the 75/80/80.5 gr bullets and RELODER 26 is your huckleberry for speed and it shoots great in my rifle.
