Best powder dispenser at the moment?

Hi,
What is the best powder dispenser available at the moment on the market?
Thanks.

Nic,
I am no connoisseur of powder dispensers but I have a few and I like the Harrells the best, with the Lyman 55 second.

Depends on your purpose..i.e. general reloading vs benchrest reloading, etc. For general reloading, like you've seen, different people like different styles and units. For serious Benchrest, Harrel's are the ticket. Personally, I use RCBS units or just my trusty little silver spoon when I want to be very precise on each and every load. Yep...thats the anal approach to dispensing powder, but then I also get my load very close together and that makes me happy.

Prometheus II is the best but it costs $3,500.00 to lease.

RCBS Chargemaster is the best of the electronic models.

Culver Lyman if you can find one and word is Niel Jones makes one that's slicker than a cats @$$.

I cannot answer your question as to the best powder dispenser of the moment. I can give you my opinion based upon my experience. I may get blasted for this ,but here goes: LEE Perfect Measure is the best in my book,, for the money. I'm sure there are pricey units out there that may throw more exact loads. I use Re15 and Varget mostly. In these two powders, the Lee will throw very consistantly. I set it to throw a tenth or two below the desired load, then trickle up.

X2!!
Have always wanted a Lyman #55 with a real Homer Culver built insert. But settled on a plain jane Lyman 55 with the Sincalir bottle adapter and their drop tubes. Amazes me all the time how good it is (maybe I'm lucky and just got a super duper good one). It will throw ball powders +/- .13 grains all day long. I did get a Harrell culver measurer down the road, and it's a solid +/- one tenth of a grain measurer. But I bought for it repeatablity. I can go right back to a load I sht two years ago with the same powder settings and never have to seriously check it. It just repeats the setups that well! But alas neither one cuts stick powders very well. Maybe +/- .25 grain with IMR 3031 or 2015BR. 4350 is much worse!

another really good one (if you could even find one) is the one Fred Sinclair sold about twenty years ago. I got to use one for almost a month, and it was as good as the Harrell, and in some ways slightly easier to use. But day in and day out, I'll take the Harrell

Gary,
The 55 I own is the old orange one not the new gray colored one and it has the culver unit in it and it is a very nice unit, it does not have the removable bottle if it did I would like it better then the Harrels.

Nic,
Of course nothing can compete with the Promethius II, but unless you have a endless supply of money the RCBS chargemaster does a great job, not good enough for long range br but a good bang for the buck.

Hi, many thanks for your replies. Sorry I meant electronic dispensers (oups).

Nic

I have the Pact and a 2 year old RCBS Chargemaster.....both equally accurate. The CM is more user friendly...changing powders is much easier.

Not to try and hijack this thread, but I seen a Lyman 55 for $75 dollars at the store today, should I go back and get it? It was orange, still in the box.

If it's got the brass Culver guts in it I would, there very nice equipment and once you develop a method for throwing your powder there pretty darn consistent.

I have a Harrell's for speed and rcbs charge master when loading for the long shots. Very happy with both
Your using a chargemaster for long range shooting? what is your vertical dispersion at 1000 yards?
Wayne.
