Best Kind of Solder For --

Good to save some of the older stuff.
Really surprised only one mention in all the above posts. Use of soldering flux. Helps immensely. Watched the guys in the radiator shop. I always burned things up, thought it had to glow red. But hey I was just a welder what did I know.?

You guys think it would have been sealable if you used something like superglue and backing soda?
I think that may have worked. I'd even thought of silicon. All said and done though, the silver solder worked pretty good.

I did have some paste flux that I smeared around and into the seam, and then used the micro torch to melt it and add to it as I rolled the can and let the solder flow. The can is made of brass, and nickel plated, and the heat did no damage.

Appearance wise, I could have used less solder, but it doesn't look too bad. I could still do a little clean-up, but for now I'm leaving it alone.

I like old school stuff, and having this little oiler of Mom's gives me a happy feeling. And when just a drop will do, it's perfect. jd
