Best ES with most shots, what's good enough

Just wondering what everybody is getting out there for their ES what is the lowest and highest round count that anyone has gotten. For PRS , ELR, NRL, ARA doesn't matter

Doesn't matter what brand of ammo just curious if anyone has been keeping records or keeping up with it out of their guns

Time of flight and gravity affect the decision.
At 25 yards or less, most any standard velocity ammo is more than adequate.
At 50 yards, 10 fps difference in mv results in 7/100ths inch of vertical spread.
At 100 yards 10 fps produces about 1/4 inch vertical spread.
At 200 yards, 1 fps difference produces 1/10th inch of vertical
and at 300 yards the same 1 fps creates 7/16ths inch difference in poi.
Not hard to do the math. If you want bugholes or 5 shot groups in the teens
at 50 yards you'll need less than 25 fps ES to be able to accomplish it.
At 100 yards 0.5 moa will need less than 20 fps ES.
At 200 yards 0.5 moa will need less than 10 fps ES.
At 300 yards y'er gonna need to do a lot of praying. :D

A couple things to keep in mind.

ES (and SD) may vary within the same lot from one box to the next. This happens even with Lapua ammos such as CX, M+, and X-Act.

MV doesn't always relate to POI. Sometimes faster rounds have a lower POI than slower ones and vice versa.

Throwing out the first five shots out of a box as foulers, best I’ve timed is in the teens for ES over 45 shots. That is rare for me.
The good shooting premium ammo I have tested generally comes in around 20-30fps ES for 45 shots.

Retested some ammo that shot really well the other day and got to shoot it after 300 yards did very well just under 3 inch group 11 shots

Vudoo 1-12 Shilen

Over on rimfire central there is a post in the long range section with chrono data for 50 shots for dang near every rimfire ammo made. Its called 50 at 200. The summary is no matter how big the font is on the box that says "match", its all garbage except sk, eley, lapua, and rws.

I only had one old box of Tenex to test when I got my Vudoo Re- barreled. It shot the smallest and had the lowest es, followed by my BiathlonX, then Lapua super long range. 20 shot samples @ 100 yards. 2 lots of CenterX were the worst.

Yeah, that is the author of the 50 at 200 post as I recall.

This was interesting--I just chronoed the first 22LR ever for me--two lots of fresh Center x out of my CZ--with a new Garmin--23-28 ES over two lots man I was happy--and it grouped fantastic
I shot some SK Semi Auto that was grouping good--it would go along about 40 ES grouping really sweet then all of a sudden the crazy flyer and it would be 80-100 Less or 40-50 More
Eley Club lot that we tested was around 45ES shot very well at 50 yds about like you would expect--no crazy ups or downs

I tested some Norma Tac 22 for giggles yesterday before match, and for 18 shots, SD was 6.9, ES was 29.7, average was 1099.7 fps, min was 1087.4 fps, max was 1117.1 fps. Box says consistent velocity at 1083 fps. It grouped good in the 2 5 shot groups I shot, but shot an ARA factory card with it, and had flyers glore. LOL I admin I was testing a few other things with my set up, so that could be some indicators as well.

shoot4fun, You can easily edit that first 1119 fps “cold bore” or fouler shot out using your Garmin app. and then see what your ES and SD is. It draws a line through it so it’s still there however not calculated into the stats.

I did edit the cold bore in another file while at the range.
The change was slight with a 1077 average, 36 ES and 6.5 SD.
But I left it on in the post because I don't think it made that big a difference in SD. Only changed ES by about 20 FPS.
EDIT
I also have a somewhat larger sample (63 rounds) of the same lotted rifle at a bit cooler temperature in January.
Average 1079
ES 32
SD 7.2
