Best custom action in 700 footprint

If you do not want a dual port or drop ( you really should) that opens you up to the other defiance models, and Kelbly atlas for other quality 700 foot print actions I would consider using for a Br level build.

Well my buddy may settle for a standard RBRP like a Remington (he like the Kelbly Atlas), but I figure if I am going custom I am getting a LPRB. And yes, I want a Remington footprint as I already have the stock and barrels and they work just fine.

Interesting bit of trivia, the integrated lug customs like the Borden and Rebel, effectively have an extra .25" of threads on the tenon. So, that is a bonus!!

Thread tenon length plays no role in accuracy. Another way to look at long tenons is they remove more steel from around the chamber. Either way good luck to you. Theres a few good options out there.

In reference to "timing". Do you mean the bolt handle is in the right place (you explained this in one of your excellent videos)? Or is it something else I don't understand.
ignition timing, Bordens the only one. They close smooth without any resistance. Most others will have to be worked on.

It is how the hammer gets cocked? Something is dragging in the firing pin? I am still not sure what the definition of "timing" is... Still seems to be a general term to do anything with the bolt. I have asked several people, and have yet to get a precise answer for "timing" work, and what it is.

Which of the custom actions use a solid bolt handle. It looks to me like most of them a brazed. Is there a reason for this?

the Kelbly bolt handles are HELI-arc -welded,,,,dont spend this kind of money till you examine one first hand,,,they are a work of art,,,,Roger

I have had several people PM me that most all custom actions need to be trued... with few exceptions.

Well, that was pretty eye opening...

They should be checked, the ones I use and recommend are because I am consistently happy with them. I pick apart actions and have stopped using some of them out there. Kelbly, Bat, and Borden rarely get through QC with a problem. Thats not saying that you cant improve any action out there and different smiths like to do different things to tweak them.

Didn't you have Bat where the bolt was all out of whack in one of your videos?

Not out of true. Timing is not necessarily going to open up groups directly. However when your moving the gun in the bags due to clunk bolt cycle that can open your groups. And in the case of the older Bats I increase pin fall. The Atlas is a very good deal at the price they sell them for. Unmatched quality at that price point without a doubt.

I have an Atlas Tactical, although it's a RBRP repeater in 6.5X47L. I like the versatility of the TG ejector and it's smooth, solid and for $925 at Bugholes.com it seems like a good value. I did have to make a minor modification in the bolt release area on the McMillan A5 that was previously used for a Remington 700.
