Its all according to how far you want to shoot it. People frequently nab coyotes at 75yds with a shotgun. A modified choke wont do it

How about some of the high weight Turkey Loads. Winchester makes a 1 7/8 multi shot that incorporates a resin material to hold the shot column together for longer range patterns.

I know they kick the heck out of you.
