Best cheeck pad without drilling holes into my stock?

As the subject says...

I had one that was made of pleather (plastic leather). And it tore open on the bottom. Gotta had something to raise my eye level. I prefer not to drill holes in my stock. I been looking around for some solid rubber with the thought of making one myself. Any suggestions or know of any that is good quality? Thanks.

I have been using the blackhawk strap on stock pack.It has removable foam spacers and fits most rifles.

SCOPE EZE works pretty good on My shot gun with a red dot for turkey.. No issues, pretty solid if you run the strap under recoil pad. They make a stick on also. Brownells sells them..

I've tried most of the soft cheek pads, but never installed any hardware like a loggerhead or the plastic bolt-thru type adjustable cheekpiece.

I've made myself some out of clay with strong magnetic inserts that pop in and out of the rifle in a snap - I do like them, but many are too concerned with cosmetics for that type if homemade.

On most of my field guns I just build up stacks of cotton patches and build a pad that lets me hang my head and get full pupil, covering it with athletic tape around the stock while allowing enough forward room for bolt removal. Again it probably looks a little too "cheap" for most, but you can get it just right. Spent about $8 and I can remove or redo it anytime. None of the aftermarkets fit just right so I got frustrated and started tinkering.

Does anyone take an existing stock and convert it to an adjustable cheekpiece? The kind that adjusts with a thumbwheel.

Nomad, Yes they do. Here are three of my match rifles with adjustable combs. The 1st picture is a adjustable comb commonly used on Trap guns, it works just great on our High Power rifles as well.

The 2nd one is one installed by Bill Shehane when he built the stock. It is an after model type comb. This is my favorite but they are pricey.

The 3rd is a Thumb Wheel adjusted comb, it is my least favorite by far. The bushing the two guides ride in get loose, or don't fit right in the first place and the comb does have some wobble to it. This would be an easy fix by installing washers under those guides, something like the 1st stock.

Made mine from blue insulation foam. Rasp and sand-paper to contour and desired height. Cover with fiberglass cloth and slow cure, clear epoxy and spray-paint a contrasting color. Attach to comb with 2 velcro tabs. About 1 second to put on/take off. No need for perfect inside contour to match top of comb since Velcro prevents contact.

If you don’t have fiberglass cloth, a dense, smooth cotton or synthetic fabric will work as well….just add layers to get stiffness you need to keep foam from denting. (Cut fabrics on bias to ease forming to foam).

Nice, cheap afternoon or evening project and, for the weight conscious, weighs practically nothing.

I use a stretchy nylon buttstock sleeve with the cartridge loops (don't need those, but that's why these sleeves are made). I insert closed-cell foam under the sleeve; the kind that is used to wrap copper pipe to prevent freezing in the wintah! I cut the foam to fit under the sleeve, with enough width to go over the comb and a bit on the left side where my cheekbone would sit.

Tape the rearmost end of the sleeve in place so it won't slide forward under recoil -- towards the skinny side of the buttstock. If you need to insert more/different foam, the front is still accessible. And you can pull the foam out if you have built it up so high that it impedes the insertion of a cleaning rod from the breech.

Works for me, and doesn't look too redneck or ghetto. ;)

Alex Sitman makes the hardware for a adjustable cheek piece thats work very well..
Not exactly easy to install on a finished stock, but has been done..

stinnett1981, I have purchased several padded cheekrests from Triad Tactical. They come with spacers to adjust height, that you can add, or subtract. They also make them with, or, without shell loops on the side. I use them on most of my bolt rifles to achieve proper cheek-weld. I'm very satisfied with them. And I believe they are made in USA.
