best cartridge for coyotes opinion

I have taken coyotes from 10 to 462 yards with everything from a 12ga. to a 30-06 with 110 Vmax. Killed a bunch with an SKS 7.62x39 but my go to after seeing some splashes and spinners with 50-55 Vmax in an AR became the .243 with 58 Vmax Superformance ammo. Point blank hold center of fur out to 300 yards. Bang- Flop DRT. rarely an exit wound.
This, seems like the 243 pr 22-250 sighted in at a inch and a half high at a hundred yards works good.

I'll have to dig through my arsenal. Thinking .22 maybe all I need. Maybe the prospect will put the fear in them at least. I've never eaten coyote but it can't be that bad. Lol.

I have. Twice.
Don't bother.

It had a funny, musky flavour to it the first time around. I figured I must have gotten some stink from the fur on the meat.
Tried it again, being extra careful. Same strange flavour. I've eaten almost any wild animal you can think of, and enjoyed almost everything, but no more coyote for me.
Timber wolf is excellent, though!

I've since wondered if that different taste would go well in a spicy dish. Not to hide it, but to complement.
Maybe I need to try it again.
Oh yeah, a .22LR will kill them dead within reasonable ranges. I've done it several times.

Use a 17 with a soft bullet like a v max so there’s very little to no danger of a ricochet.

That’s nowhere near the perfect coyote cartridge but I keep a 17 hornet just for the occasion.

Cat, the other white meat.

I've eaten dog and cat while living Taiwan and enjoyed it. I eaten just about everything I trapped or shot except skunk, mink and fox. I tried coyote twice and both times it taste like it smells, even cooked in BBQ sauce couldn't hide it.

think we have a problem with coyotes. a neighbor's cat went missing. they're sure it was a coyote that got it. also a couple of wild bunnies turned up dead and partially eaten. could be foxes but folks don't think so.
A 22RF will do at close range. A head shot will kill. A neck shot puts them down. May need follow up shot?

Thats real bad advice. Kill someone's cat and you'll potentially find yourself in a world of hurt.
Cats in my state are considered wild animals feral,if cats respond to my call on private property they get shot,if you care about your cat keep em on your property.I've lost literally thousands of dollars from ferals killing game chickens, pheasants etc. No quarter given here.

Wild animals don't distinguish between someone's pet be it cat or dog. I would blast that/those coyotes ASAP. In a suburban setting I would use a suppressed 22lr with segmented hollow points. In the country I've used everything from a hornet to my beloved 25-06, most died by my 20 caliber wildcat though.Good luck dispatching those coyotes

I assume you looked up the Ohio statute that states that. Care to share it with us?

If you are in a suburban environment shoot suppressed. 22WMR, 17HMR, Hornets, or centerfires like 204 or 223. It doesn't matter a whole lot, it's still a dead coyote. Thermals, if you choose to spend the money, increase your odds.....happy hunting!
