Best bullets and powder for 6.5 284

nick,
mine really came alive when I backed of the lands a few thou. I actually just aquired the hornady oal tool a couple of months ago,its a great investment. I have for years partially sized a case then would start the bullet then use the bolt on rifle to finnish seating the bullet,then use majic marker and continue to seat a little @ a time untill land marks were faint and call that seated to the lands when in fact It was still well into the lands.I make my own cases for the tool and have most of my rifles done now,my 6.5*284 happened to like it best .014 off lands where some liked it that much or more into the lands. I think seating depth is key to fine tuning accuracy.

I was just reading A few of the posts about the 6.5 x .284 ,I can't figure out why so many people tout on the 142 gr. bullets ,in my opinion thats way to heavy for such a small bore ,I'm sure they are plenty accurate ,but the 123 gr. -129 gr. seem to be better for hunting deer size game ,as far as powder ,I've never had good results with any of the Reloader powders ,with the exception of Re-19 it works well in the .270 WSM ,I've always had better success with the IMR and Hodgdon line of powders, as for the 6.5x .284,, its hard to beat H-4831sc ,IMR 4831 is a true classic in that caliber too ,heres a proven killer ,the 129 gr. Hornady GMX- with 48.3 gr. of H-4831 and a CCI 250 Mag. primer ,even elk drop like they have been hit by lightning with that load,given right shot placement.

Check out Cauterucio's 141gr VLD's handmades. They shoot...... Many oversea's shooters use his bullets.

Just Google Cauterucio bullets.

Rifle Man Rick;
Hornady GMX(lead free) 129 grain ?? I only see the 120 grain in the GMX but I would be interested in the 129 grain.
Barnes makes a 127 grain LRX

The load you mentioned at the beginning of this post h4831 142 smk will also work very well (better in my gun) by changing the bullet to a 140 Amax. The guy that mentioned VV165 knows what he is talking about, it works good in my gun too.
