Best Bullet for Moose?

All depend on shot placement and how much heart they have. Any big game bullet is best. My son shot his broadside heart lung went down and stood back up but never run neck shot finished it. Mine was the same shot placement but mine run 150 yd one shot i broke its hind leg never slowed him up.I feel you need gun enough to brake bone. You don't kill a moose the just die. Larry

5 Alaskan moose including a 72" trophy bull. 225 Spire Points out of a 338 Winchester mag. I assisted on 3 others that tried to leave after friends shot them with various guns. The 338 put them down. In Alaska if you don't park them you are not the only animal looking for them. The guides I know say break both front shoulders and lets not chase them.

I know of a moose shot dead in his tracks with a 22-250. Not a moose gun eh. A 270 will kill anything on this continent but again it is not the moose gun of choice. I would reccomend nothing lighter than a 30 caliber 180 bullet. Bigger is better.
As for over kill. The greatest gun writer of all time, Bob Hagel once said, "there is no such thing as overkill, Dead is Dead".
Before you go moose hunting I suggest you read his three books.

Lets not forget one thing,I have never had the money to do any moose or bear hunt, but I can say,if you like jerky, moose is the best. You wont regret that one bit,it is the finest jerky I have ever had.
