best bbl lenght for 6.5x47L?

I want to re-barrel my 6.5/284 to 6.5x47. plan to shoot 136 to 140's & probably H4350 as hot as it will shoot with accuracy. Should I order a 28 or 30"? It will be my 1000 yd gun and I don't want to lose too much velocity. Thanks for any advise

I have always shot 28" however, my next one will be 30".. I want to "try" 30" to see of the gain (if any) will be worth the extra 2".. We shall see..

Thanks for your information Benjamin. Received some private messages & it seems that the difference between 28 & 30" is a toss up (re6.5×47L). I'm leaning towards 28". Thanks again for your reply.

If you want maximum velocity, and a 30" barrel won't make your rifle over weight for the class you shoot in, then go with the 30" bbl.

It is a different case, but I shot a 27" barrel in 6.5x284 in long range prone for years. I now shoot a 30" barrel. Across the chronograph there was virtually nothing between them. Both liked the same powder, charge and bullet. Difference in fps was in the single digits.

Factor in the savings of re-chambering a 30" barrel after a thousand+ rounds (or more) to 28" rather than going with a 28" first off then having to start over in a season or two.

If you are wanting to squeeze out the FPS with a 140 class bullet the difference in 28"-30" will be far less important than the amount of free bore. With enough FB a 28" will drive a 140 hybrid at impressive speed for a small cartridge.
