Barrel length for 6.5x47

Are any of you guys using a 26" barrel on your 6.5x47? What kind of velocities are you getting? I am building a tactical type 6.5x47, I will shoot the 130 bergers. I would like to shoot a 26" barrel but need the velocity to stay atleast 2900fps and really want 2950fps to keep it close to my 6.5-284 wind calls. Thanks, Dean-o

I have a 25" on my 6.5x47 I can get 2900. but shoots a whole lot better at 2800. When my smith recommended the length I was skeptical. His reasoning was with the size of the case and the powders involved the stiffer barrel might be more worthwhile than the small velocity gain. Everyone has always told me "Listen to your smith" sO I did. In the last 4 600yd matches I have brought home 5 awards.

I built a 6.5x47L on a 1-8 26" Rock Creek Barrel for one of the local tactical shooters here. He's getting 2,950fps with the 123 Scenars and Varget. Excellent results at 1k as well. He's competing at Rifles Only this weekend in Kingsville, TX. Hopefully he'll have a good weekend.

I think 2,900fps is realistic with the 130 Bergers and the right powder/primer combo. 26" is the barrel length I would use as well. Good luck.

I have a 6.5x47L at 26" and I constantly struggle to 2900fps. Had I to do it over again I would've gone 28". It's frustrating to constantly get high pressures right at the cusp of 2900.

25" Rock Creek 8.5 twist

2900fps with RL-17 and 130 Bergers are no problem. I got to a little above 2950 before pressure issues - ejector swipes.
