I was about to start a post on this subject. I was at the range yesterday. attempting to zero a new scope on a .223 AR 15 rifle. I set my target up at 25 yards and had a nice tiny group. I then moved the target to 100 yards and could not get a bullet on the paper. I finally had to line up the rifle scope on target and then fire a round looking over the top of the scope to see point of impact. I figured that I should have been about 5.5 inches high but that was a bit off.

My scope is 2.5 inches from the barrel at the center of the aperture lens. Target is printed on an 8.5X11 sheet of paper. Yes I know I should have brought a larger target but I didn't think I could not at least be on the paper at that range. I was overshooting the target.

What I am looking for a simple calculator that will allow me to input the scope height along with the zero distance and then calculate point of impact at a given range. Must be Android compatible. I don't need to learn how to build the watch, I only want to know what time it is. These applications do not come with a good explanation of how they work and I can't seem to find one that I operate.

Doesnt get much simpler than the Geo Ballistics app. If you cant figure that one out then you might be out of luck all together

Want to get away from AB app which is about five years behind the times. No backup capability and who has 2000 yards to shoot so the ballistic calibration is useless for all but .001% of shooters. I will check out Shooter.

use the shooter app which will let you put in multiple bc’s that I get out of Bryan Litz’s book ballistic performance of rifle bullets use the correct velocity you get with the chronograph adjust your Scope correction factor till everything matches up

• Paired with the WeatherFlow WEATHERmeter ($85), and/or links up to Kestrel products
• PRO + WeatherMeter = $100 total, that will do everything and more, then most any others out there (that can cost a lot more).

Very user friendly
Online "cloud" rifle sharing & unlimited rifle profiles (with PRO version)
Export and save range cards (with PRO version)
Online rifle syncing (with PRO version)

Heres a link to the Geo Ballistics website. To get the full features, it does cost $14.99. I think AB and Shooter apps cost me $10. So it's a little more, but had more features too. I really like the Google Earth satellite map with GPS rangefinding

I will second GeoBallistics / BallisticArc. I started using it recently and it works well!
Non of them allow for multiple wind values simultaneously (5/10/15mph) which would be a terrific feature

No one is any "better" than any other inasmuch as the accuracy of the calculations. Garbage in, garbage out. The fundamental math doesn't change with brand (though the implementation of the math often does). What features each has, the idiosyncrasies and how they are to use according to the user is the only real differentiator. Find one you like. It won't matter a lick.

Absolutely agree. I teach new shooters so it necessitates that I have several apps, at least 12, and they all are within 0.1 MIL + or - out to 1200 yards. Assuming you have a good chrono/muzzle velocity, reasonable ammunition with a decent ES/SD and not counting poor shooting fundamentals and shanking shots, the biggest problems I see aren’t the apps themselves it’s a zero that’s slightly off, incorrect inputs (including environmentals), assumption of yardages (they must be accurate) and the biggest of all...scope tracking.

I have found that attention to the above solves most problems with apps at distances out to 1200 yards. I not saying I’ve never tweeted a MV or BC, but I think it’s poor practice to make adjustments to an app to compensate for one’s lack of attention to the details and understanding of the process.

I see on their website they also have a wind meter for $45. Would this get a guy by on the Ballistic Arc app, or should you go ahead and get the $85 weather meter?

The "Wind Meter" only integrates in the wind speed.
The "Weather Meter" bluetooth's in the atmospherics as well as the wind (temperature, pressure, humidity, and density altitude).
The "Wind Meter" has to be attached to the phone, with the phone facing into the wind.
The "Weather Meter" can be used separately, within bluetooth range.
Well worth the extra $40 in my opinion. And a very affordable weather meter compared to what most others can cost.

I have ballistic AE and shooter. I dont remember the last time I used Ballistic AE. Shooter is just easy.

I just finished a class that had me out to 1400, I used Strelok Pro for the entire course. It does allow you to input known drop at distance to alter POI by updating velocity. It also calculates temp sensitivity using the same known drop if no other changes have been made.
Most ballistics aps work very well and they are amazingly similar, physics being physics. I believe that it is a garbage in/ garbage out system without observing and logging data over time.

And Strelok Pro is easy to back up...

I’ll put another vote in for Strelok Pro.

It’s worked very well for me from day one. Has a lot of easy to use features that can be turned on and off as you need them and exporting your charts is very simple. They go right into a spread sheet if you want.

I use mine with a weatherflow weather meter when I practice at home. I’ll uusally use it to get atmospherics at a shoot then adjust my wind accordingly.

iSnipe isn’t too bad for a slightly more simplistic setup. Very user friendly as well.

They’re all pretty good. Try to ask around at the range and see if a guy will let you take a look at what they have before you buy anything. Then at least you can see it in real life before you spend any money.

Can anyone tell me from experience if the Kestrel Drop D3 (along with the Kestrel app) will work with ballistics arc? I can't find an available Weatherflow, which is what a buddy uses, but I still want something that will provide density altitude along with the other readings. TIA

It's been a few years since I downloaded a ballistic app and ready to upgrade. I saw a young PRS fellow at the range yesterday and he showed me one that allowed you to edit the dope table to the actual drops. Been using Applied Ballistics and Strelok Pro, neither one allows this the same way.
TIA for an suggestions.
