Best all around scope for 1000$

I'm trying to decide on a scope for a varmint/ target rifle. I want to do 600 and 1000 yard f class open with it so looking for 25x mag on the high end but also deer hunt so I want to be able to dial down to 5 power or so. Looking to spend 1000-1500 and I'm ok with a used one. Anybody have any ideas? Looked at the zeiss hd5 5-25 but they seem to get lukewarm reviews.
Thanks

Sounds like to me you need 2 rifles 2 scopes. I believe
you will get unsatisfactory results in every endeavour
trying to do it all w/one. JMHO. LDS
Well I do. I have a 6 br dedicated bench rest rifle with a sightron siii 10-50 on it. The new rifle is a 284 shehane that is much lighter and more for hunting but I want to be able to do f class with it for fun.

I have a 260AI that I use for hunting and have done 600 and 1,000 yard gong with. On it I put a 4.5-30X Bushnell 6500 Elite. From a mechanical standpoint it has been solid. Optically I feel it slightly degrades brightness above 25X. Still fine at 30X for target.

It has a ballistic reticle that I hold over for hunting at a max of 16X. For those gong shoots it easily dials up and down so I can use the center of the crosshair. Then it reliably returns to zero.

Think I paid something like $500 for it off someone on this forum.

Look into a Athlon Cronus 4.5-29x56 or the Cronus BTR.

Really great glass.
25y close focus.
Available in moa or mil, either way the reticle will match the turrets.
Fantastic tree reticles for holdovers/holdoffs.
Daylight bright illumination.
Compact and not too heavy like some scopes in this class.

It's the best value going whether new or used but to stay in your budget you'll need to find a used one. It does have a lifetime transferable warranty so if anything goes wrong you are covered.

I have been really happy with the Vortex Viper PST Gen 2.
I think for the money you will have a hard time finding something better.

I think you'll need 2 scopes and here's why-- 25x is not going to be competitive at 1k and what works for LR is way to big for deer camp, 25x max for hunting 50x for LR... just the way it is

Lots of small groups and records broke at 1000 yard BR with 25x. Matt
This one would be more for hunting with the occasional 600 yard f class so I want to stick with a smaller scope. I have th dedicated 6 br with a 50 power sightron on it so I use that for most competitions. This one would just be to switch it up for fun.
Any thoughts on the leupy vx6? Only goes to 18 power but seems nice. Or how about the Swarovski z5?

Great point Matt'
I'm sure a lot of records have set and broken with 25x it's just much easier for the average guy to see with more x. I shot decent scores with 15x however 32x was much better resolution.
Much Respect to all

I just used 25x as the upper end. The most popular for years was a 8.5x25 Leupold LRT. It was cheap and light so people could make weight for the 17 pound light gun class. Matt

Leupold VX3i LRP 8.5-25x50 by far my favorite scope as of late. At least to my eyes much clearer glass than either the Burris XTR or the Nightforce SHV. It has the easiest zero stop system going and offer reticles with as much or as little going on as you like and the best part is you can get it for under a grand. I have yet to have any issues with one. They track perfectly and return to zero as it should. I own three of these myself and have mounted at least 10-12 of these over the last year and had zero issues with any of them.

HD5s are discontinued. If you're a second focal plane, MOA guy, check out the new Zeiss V4 6-24x50. Lots of elevation adjustment, ZBR and ZMOA reticles for holdovers, and in my biased opinion the best glass and optical performance in the price range you're looking at.
