Best action shape for pillar bedding?

In Clark Hanby's (sp?) of Australia's gunsmithing book published a year or three ago (black duck publishing), he had an interesting method of running a 3/8" wide strip of thick tape down the centerline of the bottom of the action. This does in fact prevent the action (round actions) from bottoming out and being able to rock side to side, basically somewhat of a v-block principle. I use this method now with no ill effects. It provides a gap of 5-7 thousandths and allows full contact down the length of the action. Just another method and means.

What do you guys use for pillar material?

I was told by a very experienced BR shooter who builds his own rifles to use steel pillars with a steel action. His thought was that similar metals expand at a similar rate and should prevent issues. I have no idea if that was correct, but it was easy enough for me to turn some pillars from stainless for my recent BAT B build. I have no idea why the photo won't post in the proper orientation....

thats how i do them, so far

I make mine out of stainless my reason good or bad is steel has a smaller expansion contraction rate when compared to aluminum. I don't put groves on the outside instead on the last cut I turn the RPM way down and use a high feed rate. The finish is horrible almost threaded but it gives the Devcon a death grip.
