Best Action, Glass, Rest question for 600/1k, and F class

If you could rewind time, take what you know today, and buy “ONCE”.. (yes cry once).

What action, Glass, stock, and Rest would you get if you were going to shoot light gun 600/ 1000, and F-class.

Look at match equipment lists, or even better, go to a match, look and talk (with social distancing of course!).
BAT are very popular, and Borden and Kelbly have strong followings also.
Glass - Nightforce, high end Vortex, Sinclair SIII are popular.
Front rest - SEB or Shadetree if you want a joystick. If not, Sinclair, Randolph, used John Loh.

I know nothing about F-Class. My recommendations are for long range benchrest.
Bat B or DS, Jewell trigger, McMillian LRBR or ST1000, NF Benchrest or Comp, Sightron 10-50, or Votex Golden Eagle. Sinclair Comp rest.
I own and have one of each of these scopes on long range benchrest rifles. Depending on conditions I have found no one scope is best for all conditions.

I’m (right now) at - I had checked out those threads already, thanks for the links though..

So so far the plane
BAT, NF comp, and checking into rests I like the SEB ... still readying (I’m wondering how wide a forearm it can take).

The bigger unknown right now is the stock - I am starting to look into laminates, but like the shape of the McMillan LRB’s... at some point I’ll need to do some weight calculations because I will build a LG rig, and shoot both LG & HG with it (or at least that’s the plan).

I wanted to go to a couple of shoots and check out equipment, but the COVID thing makes that impossible for now.
I did check out the IBS equipment list out... that was good.

Thnx..

Alex Wheeler’s lrb is a great stock but if you want to do f class as well you’d need a 3” version to be legal.
Also I’d try a couple peoples rests before going with a $1500+ Seb. You may find you like the knob style better. I went from a seb to the Sinclair comp and haven’t looked back.

most of the major rests have a way to adapt them to any size stock you have within reason.

Thanks, I just saw that 3” forearm width requirement today... I was completely unaware of it.. I’m learning a ton of things.
I really do need to try a NEO and knob style to see which one I like the most, this isolation thing is really a pain.

I did ping michael R about if there is a waiting list for a SEB NEO because I hear the wait can be more than a year, but I thought they were 1.4k at the most... wow...

So now it’s scope rings, trigger, and stock... scope ring wise first consideration is the ultralight Nightforce rings.

Thnx!

If I were limited to 3” and wanted a stock for long range benchrest. I would go with a McMillan Shehane ST1000 hands down great stock.

Seb Neo is the best front rest.

The best action is a bit tougher. The reality is we are spoiled here in the USA with at least a half dozen manufacturers of great quality single shot target actions. My personal favorite is Borden and Kelbly’s. Both of these actions have won a bunch of matches and either will serve you well. If weight is a concern then a Kelbly’s Panda would get the nod.
Not real sure of long range benchrest rules in regards to stocks. In Fclass McMillan Kestros for fiberglass. Favorite wood stock is Precision Rifle and Tool Low Boy and Will McCloskey and Shurley Brothers both build great ones.

My favorite Glass is a NF Competition with a DDR-2 recticle

The Seb Neo is not the best front rest. While it is a top choice for F-Class, in LR BR many of us think that a joystick does not allow fine enough adjustments for 1000 yds and encourages too much adjusting.

For Fclass it is the best rest. Period dot end of discussion. If you don’t believe me then why don’t you head out to Phoenix in October for our Nationals and find me a shooter in the top 25 that isn’t using one

When I first started shooting long range br I had a fixed front rest it worked great but once I switched to a seb max I haven’t looked back. I prefer the heavier max over the neo. Only time I wish I had a fixed front rest is heavy mirage but find if I set up the max to track correctly and I trust it I can push the rifle forward and rarely move the joystick

Hmm, for F-class I'll take a Borden BRMXD action, flip a coin between a McMillan Kestros ZR or Cerus Gen 2 XR stock, I'd roll with a Dolphin Gun Company co-axial front rest and top the rifle off with a March 10-60x56 Highmaster scope.

Seb rests are great and Farley rests, with the big F-Class wheel are right up there with them and not as long a waiting list. I used a Farley until I won a Seb Mini. The Mini is perfect for me, light and easy to set up, it also wins National championships. Borden, Bat, Barnard are all great for F-Open actions. Cerus stocks are very popular in F-Class but don't forget to check out Gary Eliseo's F1 stock https://www.gotxring.com/fclass/
I would go with a March scope, proven quality, reliability and superb glass.
Don’t forget the barrel-Brux and Benchmark are the 2 bbl. makers I like.
But the most useful arrow in your quiver will be match experience...so hurry up and get out there and start shooting, for corn sake.

I’m in the middle of my first f class build and had the same questions.

What’s the best and what will suit me best

heres where I’m at
Panda f class
2 Brux barrels one in 284 win and one in 6dasher
X-ring stock SOD with RAD
SEB mini with Blake bags and feet
SEB big foot rear bag

Now just need scope and rings I’m thinking I’ll go with NF comp or vortex G.E.
Hope I made the right Decisions we'll see how she shoots. Buy once and my wife cry’s once
