Best $75.00 I ever spent!!

Looks like a front hub off a Jeep XJ/MJ/ZJ to me.

As long as the hub was pressed into the inside inner race properly them things won't wobble a bit.

Zero rocking. Zero wabble. Very solid!!!
That's awesome. I just ordered a rear hub for a Nissan Altima to install on my bench. I looked at pictures of lots of unit hubs and could not find anything as compact as yours. If you ever find out what vehicle your hub came from please let us know.

Have you shot off your bench since you added the bearing? My shooting buddy put a trailer hub on his bench and it swivels too easily causing loss of sight picture. I'm contemplating a brake that can be actuated by leg just before pulling the trigger.

Hope to get out next week. I have been thinking about the same thing that your buddy found......now I am thinking even more about it!! Thanks for that!! LOL ;)

Lots of rear brake applications fit these hubs use a cable operated parking brake, be easy to integrate one.

Well, after a LONG day of shooting I was ready to change the title of this post to "WORST" $75.00 I ever spent"!!!!! The table rotates WAY, WAY to easy!! No way in hell to hold steady on target!! And, you have to level it EXACTLY or the "heavy side" (ME) rotates down hill!! I left it set up in the pickup box and moved from knob to knob, so I spent FOREVER trying to get it level.....every time.

It worked EXACTLY like I planned....but my planning SUCKS!! Going to have to integrate a brake or impart some friction or return to stock.

Luckily my Jr PETA member LOVES shooting from prone off of a bipod and a mat, so I spent most of the day spotting and ranging for him. Lots of hits to over 700 yards. He musta shot over 400 rounds of 22BR, 6 Dasher and 6-47L and another 300 17HMR!! VERY enjoyable!!

here's an idear- coil spring and two dog clutch type gears, when you sit the gears engage, when you let weight off it can rotate. Or a plate with holes every 5-10 degrees and a pin.

My original BR Pivot Lite from 1999 works perfectly with no mods whatever, save for some occasional lube. The originals had a "lock-out" feature to lock the pivoting feature to avoid over rotation and for target work when the pivot feature was not wanted. Not sure what the ChiCom's did with the Caldwell version however. Excessive "spinning" was never a problem with the originals.

Of course, there are always some out there that want to "improve" (mutilate) any original design to make it "better"........ (and "better" is truly subjective). :D

Tod,

My shooting bench disappeared a couple of weeks ago so I ordered a new one and just finished integrating a hub/unit bearing. YES, it swivels WAY TOO EASILY! I solved the problem easily by wrapping a length of 3/8" air hose between the two rotating hubs and compressed it with a hose clamp which allows adjustability to whatever level of friction desired. I put some heavy duty wire in the hose to hold the hose in plane while putting the hose clamp on. Fuel line would probably work well also. I'll send some pics later

Here's a pic showing the hose being compressed by the hose clamp. I spun the table for quite a while and friction did not diminish. I then removed the hose for inspection and it showed no signs of wear so I am optimistic the solution will be a good one.

I'm not sure how this will work with your bench though as the bolt heads may affect it.

I am very impressed with the complete lack of rocking with this bearing.

Got back late last night from a two day sage rat shoot. The friction (rubber hose) solution worked perfectly. No adjustment was needed; the table swiveled beautifully with the friction level staying constant the entire time. What a great upgrade!
