Best .22LR Cleaning Rod?

I got the Dewey 22 LR kit that has a 20 caliber rod and jags, patches and some other goodies. The coated rods in 20 caliber were out of stock and the rep suggested a stainless 20 caliber, so that is what I ordered. Now that I have it in hand, I wish all my Dewey rods were stainless instead of coated.

Is there any way to remove the coating from a Dewey rod

what is you guys opinion on the carbon fiber rods

You don't need to remove the coating, they make a smooth stainless steel rod in 20 caliber that is the bomb for 22LR. If you are wanting to use a 22 center fire rod removing the coating won't help, its the brass fitting on the end that won't go into the 22LR bore. Read post 24.

I only use a rubber coated cloths line with loops on each end.Best for air rifles and 22's. Whatever rod you do get...GET the best bore guide built for your gun so you dont flex rod on rifling just outside chamber.Bill Calfree said more 22's wrecked in that area from cleaning.....

A couple of months ago I bought a Pro Shot SS for my 22lr rifles. So far I like it. If I think I need something better in the future as my taste for 22 rimfire shooting is getting more expensive like my centerfire had, I'll buy a SS Dewey appropriate rod.

I prefer to make my own. I use drill rod for the shaft and a pair of roller bearings in the handles. Grit can't embed in the drill rod and it resists flexing. The roller bearings ensure smooth rotation.
