Best 1911 Dovetail Sight Adjustment Tool?

Hello all. I recently acquired a new Kimber Eclipse Custom II 1911 in 10mm Auto. The accuracy with factory HPR ammo is phenomenal, but it is hitting a little bit to the left at 20 yards. I would like to purchase a sight tool to adjust the rear sight but am not sure what to get?

Sights on it are dovetail style Tritium night sights with a locking set screw on the rear. I loosened the set screw but it is so tight that I cannot tap it over so im sure i will need a tool to avoid damaging the gun. Thanks.

I adjust mine by clamping the slide in my vise with heavy leather on each side to protect the finish. I then whack the sight with a brass punch struck by an appropriately sized hammer. It works and have yet to damage the pistol or the sight.

Thanks. The Kimber Eclipse model has a matte black finish that scratches easily so I think a sight tool would be the best route to avoid damaging the finish. I already dinged it a bit trying a punch in my vise.

Grind the brass punch face to match the sight dove tail and use a bigger hammer. Sometimes, a Delrin punch will work. And sometimes a steel punch that is ground to fit the dove tail works best. It is important to clamp the slide firmly such that it doesn't bounce when you strike the punch. You want all the energy expended on the sight. Also, clamp the slide so that the sight is centered in the vise jaws and almost even with the top of the jaws. Your protective material must not flex; use heavy leather or strong plastic.

You might not want to be tapping on tritium sites. That's how they break the capsules.

Some rear sights have set screws under the sight. You remove the vertical adjustment screw and fold the sight forward to get to the screws. And the comment about tritium sights is true. Light taps on the base of the sight does not usually cause a problem though. When possible you only want to drive sights on or off by contacting the base.

Sights don't fold either. They are a solid one piece design.

Maybe the next question should be, How far off are you at 20 yards. If you added a little more finger to the trigger, could you correct the gun from shooting left, presuming, you are right handed?

Its about 1"-1.5" off to the left at 20 yards. But I'm not changing anything with my grip. I have one way I hold the gun and I've done it that way for so long that when I come to the firing position there's no thinking about it. It's there and I'm ready to rock with good accuracy. Allows me to fully focus on the target without thinking about anything else. Thanks though.
