Berger VLD's

I am wanting to try 168gr VLD's in my .308. Any advice on jumping or seating into the lands with the VLD's. Also any Pet loads using Varget.

not in 308 but i bought the same in 6.5 for my creedmoor and i found somewhere an article for berger about finding accuracy and prescision with thier vlds
here is what it say word for word it may be on thier site i'm not sure .
it say to load 24 total
1.- .010 into(touching) the lands (jam) 6 rounds
2.- .040 off the lands (jump) 6 rounds
3.- .080 off the lands (jump) 6 rounds
4.- .120 off the lands (jump) 6 rounds
shoot 2 (seperate) 3 shot groups in fair conditions to see how they group. the remarkable reality of this test is that one of these4 COALs will outperform the other three by a considerable margin.once you know which one of these 4 COALs shoots the best then you can tweak the COAL +/- .002 or .005 taking time to set this up will pay off when you find that your rifle is capable of shooting the VLD bullets very well

It's on Berger's site .I've been able to achieve excellent acurracy in several different rifles in various calibers by using this method.

Plus +1 for above, works for me. First find a good node then adjust seating depth.

I don't have one anymore but I've shot .308 EXTENSIVELY out to 1200 yards. That 168 vld as well as the smk is great to about 800 from what I've found. Past that a 175 is better. I found my best loads were pressed into the lands and similar results came from .005 off. The 155 scenars and amax are pretty good too if you can close in on 3000 fps.

As with all rifles, it is best to find your actual chamber length first, then build from there. If it's a factory stick, I'd bet it's probably about 2.82
