Berger target VLD's vs hunting VLD's ???

Hi gang. I tried searching for this as I am sure it has been discussed before.

Is there a ACCURACY difference between the Berger hunting VLD's and the target VLD's? I can find the hunting ones but the target ones seem to be all sold out.

Thanks in adance,Stan

Try Powder Valley. They usually have a good inventory of Berger bullets. As for an accuracy advantage, the so called hunting bullet is made on a thicker jacket.

I recently tried the 6mm 105vld hunting vs target and didn't see a noticible difference between the two. I shoot XTC so I shot off the bench and prone with a sling with a 6XC and a 6BRX.

Thank you distinguished. That is what I was looking for.

JRS....pretty much any dealers who stock Berger bullets are out of ones I am looking for in the TARGET version. That's why I was asking about the hunting version.

Take care,Stan

Stan: I had the target 95 gr. Berger VLD's on backorder since last April. Berger kept telling me their J4 jacket machinery is down for re-build. I finally got tired of waiting and cancelled the target backorder and got the hunting version. Had tried them right after placing the backorder in April, and at 200 yd., point-of-impact was approx. 3" high and to the left. The bullet seating depth on the ogive to touch is .016" shorter than the target VLD, and with limited groups fired, I had the impression the groups were just a tiny bit larger than the target. Since then have tried the recommended load on this sites 6BR info page for that bullet: 31.3 grs. of Varget with the CCI450 primers, and I seat them to touch, no jam. Five shot groups at 300 yd. are holding between 1" and 1 1/2", so they seem to be as good as the target, for me, with the recommended load. Am also getting excellent results with the Sierra 107 MatchKings with 30 grs. of Varget, also seated to touch. :)

FYI, just to make sure there is no confusion, the hunting version is the old target version it is the old THIN jacket. The new target version is the THICK jacket. Out of all the Bergers I tested in both thin vs thick, (and I have tested all of the 6s and a bunch of the others cals) I saw no noticable accuracy difference. But, like some others have said, I am a sling shooter so I am not measuring in .1s, etc.

That is incorrect, the hunting bullet has the thin jacket and the target bullets have the thick jacket.
