Berger seeks 6.5mm 140 gr non-VLD testers

We are looking for some shooters who are willing to test our newest bullet design. The new bullet is a 6.5mm 140 gr BT,non-VLD). This bullet is made with a tangent ogive and is meant for those who do not do not have the time or desire to tweak the VLD shape bullet.

If you are interested in testing these bullets please send an email that includes answers to the following questions to Michelle Gallagher at michelle.gallagher@bergerbullets.com.

Describe your rifle and its precision potential with similar weight bullets? ,Our goal is to have these bullets shot in many different rifles and cartridges so do not think you are eligible only if you have a tack drive)

At what distance can you test these bullets? ,We want them tested at many different ranges so don’t think you are eligible only if you have a 1,000 yard range)

What is your shipping address and phone number?

If you are selected you will be notified by return email. One box,100 count) of these new bullets will be shipped to you that same day.

I thank you in advance for your efforts on this project and I am eager to find out how these bullets shoot.

Regards,
Eric

Thank you to all of those who have sent in their information. The response has been tremendous.

In fact, I am posting to let everyone know that we have received more than enough responses to cover the available bullets. If you have not responded you do not need to do so at this time as the testers have been selected.

Michelle is in the process of notifying those who have been selected along with those who have not. Everyone who has sent Michelle an email on this subject will get a response.

Regards,
Eric

I got a chance to try some of the new Berger 140s yesterday. Not under ideal conditions either. It was 18 degrees but not windy so I decided to brave the cold and give them a try. By the time I got to the range and got my targets set up the damn wind was starting to come up. I decided since I was there I would give them a try so I shot the first group at 100yds it went into .450 for five shots the next group was at 200yds and it went into .880 for five shots.

I had planned on working my way out to 800yds but by now the wind was blowing at 8mph+ so I decided to just try a group at 500yds and call it good. I had shot 4 shots when a gust blew my target off the backer,I shoot at 6" paper plates from 500 & 600yds) by the time I collected my plate I decided it was to windy.,The wind was now at 12mph and full value and I was cold) The group at 500yds was 2.3" for four shots and a nice round cluster. I have no doubt that if I would have done my part the 5th shot would also have been there.

My rifle is a 6.5x55 Remington 700 with a Kreiger sendero contour, 1-8 twist, barrel set up as a tactical rifle. I didn't clean it or change a thing on my loads or seating depth from the 139s. I just put the Bergers in the cases and shot them. The data for the 139s both windage and elevation was dead on for the Bergers so I would guess the BC will be very compairatable to the 139s.

I was very surprised by the results since this rifle has been a picky rifle for loads. It took me well over 400rds in the begining to find a load the thing shot well. Which is very unusual for this caliber. I hope to get out and shoot some more this weekend if the weather holds. The problem is its usually windy most the time in S.Dakota so I don't know how fair of a test it is for the bullet.

Raptor, What is your seating depth as fas as relations to the lands goes if you don't mind me asking? Thanks, Bill

billmo,
Where my bullet is now it would just be "Kissing" the rifling and this would be over 600rds ago. I have not checked it in a while so in all honesty the bullet may not be as close as I think it is. I just loaded them and shot them the way I was with my 139s.

I will load my next batch so that they are into the rifling a tad to see what that does for me. I will let you know how they do there.

O K Thanks man. I Have loaded some .010 out and .010 in the lands and will let you know how mine performs. My rifle in the past has shot better at .010 out of the lands but that was with SMKs 142 gr. At this point that is the only bullet I have shot in that particular gun. Bill
