Berger or Swift Scirocco II

In about 4 weeks my first custom rifle will be complete. I am building a 6.5-284 on a Ruger action, Brux 28" bbl., 1:8.5 twist. After visiting with my gunsmith, we have narrowed the first bullet selection to 2 bullets...Berger 130gr VLD or 130 gr. Swift Scirocco II. The rifle will be used for long distance, out to 800+ yds) targets and also for hunting deer and antelope, possibly elk.

Does anyone have experience with the Scirocco II's?

The Berger bullets are known for their accuracy; however some of the terminal ballistics reports I've heard claim they are tough on the off-side meat.

The Bergers will shoot better but the Swift Sciroccos will hold together better. You are comparing apples to oranges. No puns intended. Eric at Berger will tell you his bullets are great hunting bullets. He will also have to tell you that they are not a controled expantion bullet nor do they have a bonded core. There are several polymer tipped control expansion bullets on the market today that have a high BC and a bonded core.

Use Bergers and shoot your deer in the ribs. Hit him on the point of the shoulder and you're going to make a big mess. I shot a nice buck this past fall with a 140 Berger VLD out of a swede and it worked just fine, no unnecessary meat damage at all.
