berger bullet 115 vld

has anyone shot the berger 115 VLD do like them in the BRs or is the 105 better ?

I use them for my ram load (HP silhouette) in my 6BR.

Two things to keep in mind when considering these heavy bullets...

1. You'll need at least a 7.5 twist barrel as a 1:8 twist will be questionable if it will stabilize them reliably. A 1:8 twist barrel should be good for 105's though.

2. I had to move from N140 to N150 to get the velocity up to a desired speed range without pressure issues. The best I could get with N140 was ~2,680, but with N150 I'm at ~2,750 with less pressure. (Using a 26" barrel.)

I briefly considered converting try 6BR to BRA in order to get the 115's velocity up to where I was wanting it, but the N150 got me there instead.

Hope that helps.

ok thanks that's what i will be shooting the 6 BRA 7.5 twist

This makes me wonder if using these for 1000 yds would be beneficial. ? ...... vs
In the pasted the 105 Berger Has done well in a mild load 6bra.

I've used the 115's in my 243ai and 6xc with several different powders, worked ok out to 500yds. But when I switched to the 110smk's, things got alot better in my barrels, always worth a try. Just gives us another reason to go shoot and play with bullets.

What twist rate are you using on the 110s?

Kochie, yes on the xc I'm not running them really fast, keeping them around 2850ish. When I had then up round 3050+ not as good in my barrel, one of Bradly's Wilson's.(Urbam Rifleman) Still working on it when spring come again.

I recommend at 7.25 twist, but you can get them to shoot pretty well at 1,000. BRA will be slowed down more than you'd figure 10 grains would be worth, but it should shoot well still. It seems it's been like a lot of others, around 5-10 in past touch for me.

Seems like most of the guys I've shot with since the S110MKs came out say that they vary from one lot to another - good lots shoot great, but they've all mentioned shooting other lots that didn't perform as well. I bought a few boxes of them, but had various results out of a 7.5tw 6XC.
