berger 88's in a dasher

Come across 500 berger 88's, anybody shot these through a 8 twist yet? I looked through the dasher load area on the site and didn't see much. I have many powders to choose from, looking at 400yrds and under

I spent my 53yr years living on a farm just East of New Haven. Enjoyed shooting the gargantuan "soybeanus digestus " that populated the Maumee River Valley.


DK if the following info might help ?
I can only tell you load data for my 6mm wildcat, w/ case capacity between that of 6X47 and 6XC.

29" Broughton SS 1-8 "5C"- rifled.

39.5gr VV560 Fed LR Magnum Berger 88LD.
Shot this load 1X at the Western Pennsylvania World Championship Groundhog Shoot, when I had little time to work up another load.
Afterwards, wanted more accuracy and perhaps more vel w/ higher " load density "; and graduated to....

42.0gr RL-22 Fed LR Match Berger 88LD.
Never chrono'd, but accuracy was superb; and.... it was lethal on groundhogs.
Tried it for a while, then moved on to even better load....

43.7gr IMR 7828SSC CCI LR Berger 88LD.
SHot this load at my 4th trip to the West PA World Groundhog Match.
Max load density.

Shot a group of 5ea w/ the 88s where all 5 bullet holes looked like the side of a cheese grater. Sort-of a "smeared" look to the elongated bullet holes. All 5. Never had seen anything like that, and was @ a loss to explain !?

Since the West PA Match shoots for record @ 100, 300, and 500yd; I felt I'd be better served by use of a heavier 6mm BT.
Tried and liked both the 95MK, and Berger 95VLD. Have not shot any 88s since.

Also found that vanilla Sierra 6mm 85BTHP were THE most consistent 6mm bullets by weight, bar none.
Weighed 3ea boxes, and each box only had .2gr max variance over 100 bullets weighed each box. Berger ( 88, 90, 95, et al ) were runnin' w/ up to .7gr variance ( the latter being caused by one or 2 bullets in the box being well off-spec.

If you're going after live varmint in NE Indiana, perhaps the 85BTHP would serve your neeeds ?
I'd have to look @ the numbers, but my sense of it is the 85 could work for 400.

Not an 8" twist, but I have a 10" twist Dasher (which I thought was an 8") and a box of 88gn Berger LDs arrived today. I will be loading some up for a test soon. The long bearing surface of these 88gn LDs work well with my chamber which is throated to suit 105s.

Best shooting rifle I ever had was a Brux 1 in 10 twist 6mm Dasher 88 grain Berger on on top of RL 15.

I have used them a fair bit in an 8tw 6BR. Push them above 3200 and they might not make it to the target.

They are real long and since they are a FB you need to be able to seat them out a bit to keep them away from the neck shoulder junction.

I have been using them in a Brx and have been very happy with them. I shot them out to 900 yards and
accuracy has been super!

I have used them a fair bit in an 8tw 6BR. Push them above 3200 and they might not make it to the target.

This quote from above is not true!!!! As I have been pushing them out at 3260 fps in my Brx and had them going faster when I was searching for a load.

They work very well on woodchucks also.

I really think if you buy them you will be very happy with them.

Well it has been true in my experience...not saying it is an absolute, as lots of factors influence. As always the information is provided as an FYI not to argue about.

I have no hesitation using Berger bullets including the 88.

have shot many of them in a BRX well over that and never had one come apart or even get loose.
Did you have em come apart? If so why do you think they did?

Yep, I'm talking from first hand experience. The give away is the little puff of vapour and a zero in the midst of a string of centrals.
Well and good that your experience differs, they are at the end of the day an excellent bullet.
