berger 6mm 88 gr blowing up

Anyone else have the Berger 88gr 6mm bullet blow up. I was shooting a 1in 8 twist barrel speed is 3350 fps. The bullets did get to the 100 yard target i shot for groups but when I shot at a rock on a hill side at 600 yards the was no indication the bullets got there. A spotter nor I saw no dust anywhere. out of 6 shots one made it to the rock. also shot at 400 yards with same results. weird it makes it to 100 and not at farther distances no key holing or fragments at 100 yards.

I THINK U NEED A 10 TWIST WITH THOSES BULLETS I HAD THE SAME THING HAPPEN WITH 68GR CUSTOM BULLETS IN A 9.25 TWIST ONE TIME

I'VE SHOT THE 87GR VLD'S IN A 8 TWIST WITH GOOD RESULTS IN A 243 ACKLEY BUT THERE A DIFFERENT DESIGN THAN THE 88GR FB

dont count on the 10 tw being the end all of your troubles. the step son had a brand new 10 t blow the 88.

if they are going to blow they blow. how about a 237 diameter bore to help?

I had problems with them in a 243AI with a 1:8 twist Benchmark 3-Groove barrel. If I got close to 3300 fps they would puff apart at about 30yds away. At around 3230-3250 they would make it to a 100yd target with inconsistent groups and then as I was working up a higher load, I would sometimes have a "missing" bullet hole. I first thought, " It must have went into one of the other holes." I had increased the speed (don't remember the load, just the speed) near 3275-3300 and started having a lot of missing bullets. The guy shooting next to me saw them first. They would "puff apart" at about 30yds down range. Had to look close, but once you saw one, it was obvious. I had several 5 shot batches with that day and I fired them all just to use em up. None of the ones that went through the chrono over 3300fps made it to the paper. I just quit using them after that. They are great bullets but I was chasing some speed in that rifle at that time and didn't want to waste them.

Do the 80 grain flat base match do the same thing in a 8 twist as well?

I am shooting the 80's in a 8 twist 243 and not had any problems yet. shot some saturday with varget running 3400fps.

I shot the 88g 6XC at 3400 out of 2 different 3 groove 8tw barrels and never had a blowup. Had a lot of PD crawl-offs though.

what powder in the 6xc with the 88

Me or in general? I used H4350, RL17, and Data 85 (Ramshot Hunter). 3400fps was pushing max load in hot weather. If you are looking for max velocity don't bother with extruded powders slower than 4350 class, won't be able to get enough in the case to reach max, but with ball powders you might.
