Berger 20 cal bulets.

So last year i contacted berger as to when they might start making some 20 cal bullets. I was told first quarter of this year. I contacted them again this weekend and got a reply today. No eta for this year and maybe next year. This really sucks. So i stock piled 1k
V-max. I would much rather have the bergers from my experience. I have a stash of the 35gr but keeping them for my 204r. I wanted the 40gr for my 20p.

In my rifle the 40 Berger is great at killing coyotes. It’s sad that the industry hasn’t embraced the 20 caliber like all the other calibers, we have a few gaps in weight choices. My rifle happens to be an older 13 twist and since the Berger is on the short side for a 40 class bullet it works well. Next barrel will be an 11 twist. I for one would be happy if I could use the 39 Sierra or the 40 VMax in my gun but my twist is just too slow. I’d like to see Sierra finally offer their 36 Blitzking for all the 12 twist shooters out there. Not sure what your twist is JB or what quarry you are after but I would definitely try the 39BK, last I saw they are somewhat available. The 40 VMax worked very well for me on pd’s out to 572 yards with my custom 20/222imp 11 twist rifle. Don’t get me started on why they haven’t made a 50BK or VMax yet and while they are at it how about a new 20ARC or similar with a fast twist to launch such a bullet.

My Cooper 21 Varmint in TAC20 shoots 35 and 40gr Bergers well. lt loves 32gr VMAX and NOSLERS, but not the 40VMAX or NOSLER.
No need for a 22-250. TAC20 is a true 4000fps GUN. Simply point and SHOOT

Huge difference in terminal performance between tipped and non tipped bullets. I'm not a fan of tipped 20 cal for winter coyote. Even the vaulted 39 Sierra. A Nosler 40BT has been the best tipped coyote bullet out of my 20p and 204R. But not as clean killing as a Berger 35/40 or the BIB 40. I prefer the BIB, but I'm getting low on them.

After i burn through these vmax i might try the bib. Ive had good luck with my 204 with 35 bergers on coyotes. This rifle will mainly be for coyotes. Thats why i wanted to try the 40s. I like the noslers in a 223 but they are not around often and they got proud in their prices lately.

Berger has left the small caliber shooters in the dust even since back about 2012 when they discontinued the 17 caliber 25 gr Match and the 20 caliber 50 gr bullets in my opinion.

At one time they made several weights in 17 caliber and a few in the 20 caliber.

Im not waiting around on them too make 20 caliber bullets. They cant even get any j4 jackets made up for the custom bullet makers.

Sad times for Sub-caliber shooters!

Tried 40 bergers out of 2 savages, 2 Criterion,1 Krieger, 1 X Caliber Barrels, 40 V-Max were More Accurate out of each barrel

I have a 1,000 ct. box of those 35's I bought probably ten years ago when I started shooting the .20 Practical. My first test loads were with 32 and 40 V-Max, along with 39 Blitz King. I just stopped right there. That caliber is about the easiest to find a good load for, of all I have tried.

One needs to have a backup plan, for the backup plan.
I did not shed a tear over Sierra’s supply issues, seems common for them anymore and loose faith/interest in them anymore.
I have shifted gears on what powder I am burning in the 204, I hope they choke on 10X, just stupid $$$.

Sucks about the Berger. The sierra 39 gr is finally around again. Got an email this morning midway has 500 rd boxes. Expensive though. I enjoy 20 cal but the lack of bullets sucks.

My hope is Hornady releases a 20 arc or something with an eld vt and this sparks a resurgence in 20 cal and we see more bullets hot the market from their competition.

I know someone who works at a sportsmans warehouse, they said last few months they have had several people looking for 20 cal bullets. They normally dont get that. Im just glad that at least hornadys have been around.

I like the Berger 35gr. I have been shooting hogs on a hunting club. I have a target dot scope on mine. Put the dot right below the ear. And send it. I am using H4895 in mine. I think I have 4 pds left. But after that will go back to RL10. I have 10 1pd bottles. Only thing I use RL10 in.

That stinks. The 35gr Berger really puts coyotes down hard with minimal fur damage. I got lucky and my RRA AR15 shoots the same load almost as good as my Savage 10. I also am using H4895

What powder are you burning in your .204 Ruger ?

Thanks
Hal
At the moment I am knocking off my last pound of 10X. Then I have some CFE223, 8+lb of that, but use it in others. Depending on cost and availability, what is next. I have a spread of VV 133,135,140 to try in several cartridges and see what I come up with.
In my old 204, I found it to not be picky. I have an itch to scratch for a new barrel.
