Berger 20 cal. 55grain bullets

Im at 610 ft in SW Wisconsin. I shoot a 20-250 PacNor 1x9 with 55 berger at 3850 fps. Most accurate rifle I own and have seen no issues out to 800 yards with accuracy outside misreading the wind. I had a 20 BR with 1x8, couldn't find a consistent load with 55 Bergers no matter what; however the 40 gr were crazy accurate. Can't explain it.

germanlongbow, I'd sure like to hear about your load for the 20/250. Around 3850 fps is what I've been looking for with my 20/250. I went out this afternoon "again"...and tried Superformance. The velocity is about right. It's staying in the 3850 range, but the groups suck! Thinking about going back to RL-15 or maybe RL-17. Frustrating. As for Sherm's .078" group out of his 20BR Imp...I've seen the group. Very impressive! And Stan your speed sounds about right for the 20 Dasher. I've shot my same load (after load development) for the 20BR for at least 6 years in the 20 BR's. Some I've reloaded up to fives times with no signs of over pressure. In fact my load of about 3650 fps for the 20BR is a normal working load. 7315br
I played with the 20x47 lapua for a while an it shot very reasonable at about 3800fps but I could cruise at 3900 but it wouldn't shoot consistently I think the 3750 range is competitive I have received my share of wood with the 20 calibers some of the guys I shoot don't like to see it show up at some matches I go to they ole Lord the BB gun is back LOL.

I shot a match at Whitehorse in the fall it was cool with H4350 first target it was 15 inches of vertical put the ammo on dashboard of truck put heat on with thermometer an brought it up to about 80 degrees an shot a 5 inch group on next relay at a 1000yd mat

I tried H4350 and RL16 in my 20 Nitro shot o.k but speed was way down. I use RL15 keep telling myself I need to try H4895 but I havent yet.

I started with Varget. Big mistake, blew the primer back through the case and obliterated the extractor on my Surgeon 591. Can't remember whose data I started with, I usually start on the lower side and work up. Irregardless I switched to H4350 39.7grains, Nosler brass (lapua wasn't making 22-250 at the time), Fed 210M, and Berger 55. I literally spent one hour at the range with a few test loads and had my load. I wanted a sub bore to play with at a 1000 yards, buddies didn't think it was possible. Wrong, its possible just not practical when comparing to bigger bores. I purpose built on a Surgeon action, bottom metal, McMillan A5 stock, jewel trigger, and 1.250x28 fluted 1x9 PacNor barrel. Its heavy but fun to shoot. I had the barrel cut for a TBAC suppressor. Group size goes from 0.1's to 0.7 with the can on. No idea why the 17 and 20's cals I have with cans on shoot worse than with can off? None of my 6-30-33 cals have this issue. Good luck Scott

I've been hand swaging 20 caliber bullets for over 12 years and have played with a lot of different weights of bullets including 50-55 grain bullets. In a cartridge case the size of the 204 Ruger and Tactical 20, I have found that the better bullet BC is pretty much negated by the significant loss in velocity in a fast twist barrel. So you really don't gain much other than a larger, heavier bullet hitting a target with a little more energy at top speeds than you get with lighter 20 caliber bullets.

In cases of those sizes it will not turn them into a 1000 yard effective shooter nor will it turn the world upside down. Where you will see a significant benefit and improvement will be in larger cases such as the 20-250 (20 Wolfer) and the 20-250AI (20 Super Wolfer) and other similar sized wild cats that can provide sufficient velocity to make a real difference.

How far off are they on selling them all? I don't have the $$ right now for them. I'd like more but I'm still not happy that they quit on another bullet I liked

I won't try to hide my annoyance with Berger but I have ordered from Graf for something like 20 years and appreciate their policies. Regardless, the 55g Berger is a fine bullet - I shot the last 350 I had at PD's in Colorado the other weekend from my 20 BR and they did very well in difficult conditions - long range and a lot of switching wind. It's amazing how little wind deflection this bullet sees compared to other rounds I've shot.

Randy

A very positive outlook thank you for that.

I don't know if this info is out. I looked through the thread and didn't see a mention. Grafs has a front page website blurb that they have convinced Berger to make a special run of the 20/55 No stock but I guess it is coming.

I have over 1100 rounds of experience with the 55gr Bergers in an 8 twist .20 BR. I shot it at ground squirrels two years in a row. Most shots are under 200 yards. The 55s produce groups between 4 and 5 inches routinely at 550 yards (Just happens to be the back of the range). I have shot Sierra 39 gr BlitzKings repeatedly under 3 inches side by side at this distance. I have 4 groups under two inches at 550 with BlitzKings at 550 yards. My best Sierra group is 1.41 inches. Will the 55 Berger "stabilize" with slow twist barrels? I see that Hart lists a 7 twist barrel in twenty. Anyone had a 7 twist barrel made in this caliber?

All I have to say is my ppc with the Berger 50 out shot the 55 at 500 yards. Both gone. Piss off berger!!!!!
