Berger 195g 7mm Hybrids/VLDs

Which of the 7mm offerings would you guys believe would be best suited when the new Berger 195g 7mm bullets are released for 1000y f-class, thinking of going down the Lapua 6.5 X 284 necked up to 7mm route with long 32-33inch heavy bull barrel 1 in 8 twist to shoot the 180-195g berger hybrids, thinking the long 284 barrel would yield simmiler velocities as the 7mmwsm, any thoughts.

I would make sure you get the right twist if you are planning on using that bullet when it gets released. I would probably think 284 Shehane or 7 RSAUM. You can chamber one now and throat longer if needed but you will need more then a 9 twist. Matt

Thanks for replies, Will probably go with 284 with necked up Lapua 6.5 x 284 brass and 1 in 8 twist 32in heavy bull barrel, would a stock similer to the longboy help rifle ride the bags better due to top heavy long barrel.

The longer the stock the better it will ride the bags with a long heavy barrel. I am not familiar with the longboy stock.

Your making a lot of plans for a bullet that was supposed to have been released a long time ago and still is not out.

I don't see you being able to get the .284 to the same velocities as the 7WSM or even the .284 shehane.

This is a guess but I would say best case, with the 195 and a .284 the best velocity will be 2750.

The 7mm Saum might also be another contender for 190g+ bullets, More than enough velocity with better barrel life over the 7wsm.

After talking to Litz at Shot Show, just build the rifle to shoot the 180gr because it`s going to be a while before the 195`s come out.

We talking later on this year or next maybe?

Litz didn`t say when the 195`s will become available. He said Berger can`t make what they already do fast enough so coming out with new bullets & designs would be on hold for awhile. He said to build your rifle to shoot the 180`s which is already one of the best bullets for the 7mm.

If they are not even suggesting a release date then we are likely looking at 2015.

As mentioned above, they can't produce the existing line fast enough to meet demand, so it will likely be a long time before they get to the new products. Too bad because a good high BC 190-195 would likely dominate the firing line like their 180vld did 6 or 7 years ago.

I did have excellent results with the 195s in my 7mm 270..
The best my guns have ever shot in the European championships in the teams match..
Used them again in the British championships in colder weather..
Frosty mornings and my 1 in 9 went out of tune..
After consulting others I thought I'd take a chance that the barrel had died on me..
Switched too the 180gr hybrid load and it shot great and won a medal on the stage..
I've not tried them since in my 1 in 9..
In my 1 in 8.25 saum it shoots the 195s superb all year around no matter what the temps..
They shot great in this years European championships..
I had one bad match..
