Berger 127 Gr 257 Hybrid - 0.300 G7 & 0.59 G1 BC

Sadly, This is not a 0.257 127 gr Hybrid, :P but I sure wish it were

The last 6 years have been great to shooters in terms of ballistic performance and choices, but as tinkerers and wildcatters there's always something else to play with.

First of all, I'd love to put an hour or so into doing to math for optimal bullet weight (123-130 gr), twist needed (8.5-9.5), & all that stuff but I've been running 24/7 lately. If anyone has some good numbers please share them.

I've been trying to spread the gospel that 257x47 Lap, 257 Creedmoor, 257 Rem, & a host of other options would be a great addition to competitive and practical cartridges if only we had a competitive bullet to shoot! :(

The cartridges would fit a niche that offers low recoil with superb long range performance. A lot of the 6mm don't show hits on steel very well past 850 yds not to mention 1300-1500 that some competitions stretch out to, and the 0.284 competition cartridges can offer more recoil than some prefer. 0.264 cartridges have done well these last few years after many years in the shadows and it is nice to see them enjoying their due.

Now, take those potent cartridges and stuff a 1/4 bore bullet inside them and you could operate near or at the same levels of performance, gain a bit of speed, reduce recoil, and even cut a few inches off your barrel to increase the handiness of your high performance long range rig. This is not mentioning how wild a 257 WBY would be if a top flight projectile existed. 8)

The response I've heard from bullet manufacturers is that there is not a market for such a bullet. I kind of feel like Jerry Maguire when I talk with people about these things. HELP ME... HELP YOU?! ;D HELP ME!!! HELP YOUUU!!!

I know I'd buy a barrel and chamber this puppy up. I know a bunch of guys who would do it too. Sure the 6.5x47 is going to have a good run for a few years but we all want an excuse for a new rig right?

So call up the bullet making dudes & let them know you're signed!

I know... I know... you don't have to say anything.

I'm a quarter bore fan too, but I'm not willing to jump on this train with you... yet.

You might try to get in touch with Randy Robinett of Ballistic Idiot Bullets. Of course he builds great 30cal, 6mm and 22cal bullets, but he's also a lover of the .25 and makes great bullets for those too. He makes an 88FB and a 110 BT with a BC of .52, maybe not quite what you're looking for, but it's a start.

Pat

The good Mr. Robinett, also makes a 110 grain 25, that is the best made anywhere, by anyone ;) 8)

The Ballistic Idiot has also won a bit of fake wood with the 25x47L ;)

I shoot a 25-06. Why don't you start making the bullets that you think are needed. Berger can't make 6.5 130 VLD's now because they are selling all of the other bullets that people want, so you should put your money where you think bullet makers are missing the boat.

wapiti,

it took a long time but did take your advice.

I can see where some of my money is going to go.........Looks like June 27th is the kick off day?

We will begin taking pre-orders for the barrel blanks that will be arriving starting June 27th. The 25x47 and 25 creed reamers will be available for pre-order then as well.

Bullets may be available for pre-order but we are really trying to wait to capture all costs before setting prices on that so we don't over-promise and then shoot ourselves in the foot.

We want them to be as affordable as we can operate the business in a healthy way to incentivize people to shoot them!

When do you anticipate the reamers to be available for shipping? Understand on the being cautious and highly recommend it. Wishing you much success!!!!

We had 10 of each but now 7 25x47 and 7 25 Creed left in the Manosn. The 12 JGS (6 25x47 and 6 25 Creed) will be coming in 1-2 weeks. : )

The 25x47 is essentially the 250 Ackley. To go beyond the current crop of 25 caliber bullets would require the correct length jackets. Who will you find to produce them?

130s seem about where guys with 6.5s want to be in terms of recoil so a 257 in that weight, which in turn should have a higher bc should get a fair bit of attention. It has mine!

We won't have an issue with jacket production - you could say we are are utilizing jackets from the kings of the bullet industry and these bullets will be affordable for match and long range shooters.

These 131 grain ACE bullets coming out in July and the HTR bullet we will be releasing specifically for Long Range Hunting early 2019 will be commercially available and we will have plenty to go around. : )

Geno C,

You hit the nail on the head. This project initially started from a realization that 130 grain recoil at 3100 fps was about all I wanted to handle at PRS style matches, which is plenty of trajectory and power for nearly all realistic hunting uses. Then I started playing with the numbers to see what we could do in 0.257". It all works out as a convenient mathematical coincidence but getting long high BC 0.257" bullets to the market in commercial quantities is definitely an uphill climb.

We've worked with barrel mfgs to get tooling or test their tooling to make correct twist barrels and ordered 32 reamers to get 25x47 and 25 Creedmoor going.

We know the design is solid and we've put the legwork in to make it as easy as we possibly can to get shooters everything they need to get going. We're very confident the project is going to work and are already working on Blackjack Bullets 2nd design the HTR, which we've had designed for over 2 years as well. Just been focusing on this slippery 131 gr ACE first!

Thanks for the interest.
