Berger 108's

Have not seen anyone talk about these for hunting so just throwing my experience out there. Been having very bad coyote issues, they figured out our gazelles were having babies and the zeroed in on them. Snares were not effective, they would literally dig a new hole under the fence 5 feet from their last hole in, then dig a new hole 5 feet away out. So laid out with a call and red light on them. Rifle is a suppressed 6 BR 8 twist repeater running 108 Bergers at 2855.

First dog came into call then backed out and I caught it running up a hill at 190yds. Had tail and ears as he was about to crest hill heading away when I pulled trigger. Hit right above the hips, first time I have seen entire abdominal cavity contents hang out the top of a dog. Massive entry hole tennis ball sized, didnt appear to make it past diaphragm. Second dog was peeking out behind a cedar trying to figure out what happened to dog 1 and gave me head and neck only at 160 yds. Shot entered neck few inches behind jaw bone and left tangerine sized exit and cleared out everything along the way. Dog 3 came into call facing straight at me at 230 yards, put crosshairs between the eyes with 100 yd zero and let it fly. Entered straight through the mouth, split tongue in half and broke both jawbones. It then exited bottom of jaw and reentered straight into throat with a 4 inch entry wound and no exit. Dog 4 straight broadside and large entry hole with smashed shoulder but did not appear to reach offside shoulder.

Overall opinion for me is it behaves like a heavy varmint bullet and is not fur friendly. I do not feel comfortable that it would reach vitals on less than perfect shot on a white tail deer, and I love a 223 for deer so I am not a heavy gun nut. Please take my opinion as worth what you paid for it as this is a limited amount of actual use.

It looks like those Bergers did a great job for you as a coyote bullet!
I hope the 107SMK in my 6x47L will do the same. It would be nice to load only one bullet for targets and coyotes.
