Berger 108's getting better and better.

These new Berger 108's are definately the cats meow in my 6BR 8 twist Kreiger. Here's a 500 meter,547 yard) group I shot yesterday morning.
Five shot group measured .964 with three shots in .242!

Wow...

Danny. That's amazing accuracy. For the folks out there who are curious, what powder/primers are you using and what's your seating depth. Did you modify the meplats in any way?

Thanks Paul,

My chamber and load are as follows:
.269 neck .104 freebore
Lapua neck turned brass
Berger 108 grain BT
30.5 grains of Varget, the usual precautions apply)
CCI 450 primers
bullet seated .013 into the lands

Never touched the Meplats, they are pretty good right out of the box. Nothing magic, that Berger 108 just flat out shoots!

Chris,

I heard Powder Valley had some about three weeks ago, but you had to call and ask for them. I don't know who has them right now.

Lynn,

I'll run a heads up side by side when I get the bullets that you sent me. Probably one day next week.

Danny,

What are the specs on the Krieger? .237 4-groove, 28"?

Danny, you do realize that I bet the majority of rifle shooter would be quite happy with that group at 100 yards... By my calculation, it runs about 0.167 MOA.

Not too shabby Danny! Which rifle is this? Which reamer did you use?

PS. I received you letter yesterday, thanks.

Chuck

Paul,

Yes, it's A 28 inch Kreiger 4 groove, HV contour with a .237 bore. Yep, I'm a happy camper, this rifle shoots like a rail gun!
The rifle is a Remington trued 40XB, Jewell trigger, Tooley MBR stock with a weight system in the butt smithed by Clarence Hammond. Optics are a 12-42 Nightforce NXS with a NP2-DD reticle in Badger Max 50 rings on a Leupold 20MOA base. Rifle weighs in at 18.5 pounds with the weight system.

Chuck,
Reamer is a .269 neck, .104 freebore by Dave Kiff.

This rifle proves one thing to me. A trued Remington action can shoot every bit as good as a custom action provided that it is trued and built by a good smith.

Here is a picture again of the rifle. Named by Logan, my ten year old son. He claims the stock color looks like the toxic chemicals that the Joker,Jack Nickelson) fell into in the first Batman movie. Hence the name "Toxic". My wife just refers to it as "The ugly gun".

Very nice shooting!!

I'm more of a Varmint/Informal paper puncher than a Comp shooter but am loving your set-up. You sure got her dialed in.

Just a heads up to you guys. Powder Valley has the 108's in stock and they are finally on their web site. Price is $19.09 per box of 100.

Danny

Chris,
Yep, the price on all components is only going one way..........and it isn't down.
Then again $22.49 per hundred seems pretty darn cheap when compared to some of the Boutique bullet prices.

Do you guys think they will shoot out of a factory Savage 243?

Savage barrels are button rifled and some don't measure exactly what Savage claims. As an example, one of the shooters at our range has a .223 Savage that's supposed to br a 1:9 twist. Upon measuring it turns out to be more like 1:8.25, so it would be a good idea for you to measure your barrel twist to find out for certain.

IIRC, there were several threads on this subject on the old savageshooters.net website before it crashed and became a pay 'site.
