Berger 105 grn....Target VLD vrs Hunting VLD

Shooting a 6mm Dasher in Bartlein 8 twist and 7.5 twist. Any feedback on relative merits between the target vrs hunting?

I don't know the current situation, but in days past, the hunting had a better BC.

Beyond that, I've only shot one 6mm match bullet, so I have no basis for comparison.

So far the hunting vlds are a hair more accurate for me. I stopped buying the target bullets.

I know several others that have said the same.

Best to just try both and see what is better..

I shot them in straight BR and didn't see much if any difference between Targets and Hunting's..
I'm testing some Hunting's in my BRA barrel at moment, have only gotten half way through fire forming but the FF groups look great will keep you posted.

Cheers Rushty

I was shooting the Target VLD in my 6mm BR Norma when they became very difficult to purchase for a while. However, the "H" version was available in most places. I called Berger and got someone on the phone (scientist or sweeper?) who said the two were very similar except that the Hunting version had a thinner jacket designed for better expansion while the thick jacket for the Target version was designed for strength because some folks were shooting them at high MV's out of fast twist barrels.

He went on to say the meplat of the Hunting version was more consistent because the thinner jacket was easier to form and that many of the competitive shooters working at Berger used the "H" version in preference to the Hunting version specifically because of the more consistent meplat shape.

I bought a big batch of the VLD(H) bullets and found them to be quite good. Better than the Target version? Who knows? But I would say they are at least as good and perhaps better. I will say that I used to point the Target bullets but I don't point the Hunting bullets because they do indeed look like they're better at the tip, at least the lots I was working with.
