Bergara Premier Short Action - Project Rifle

Bergara Premier Short Action:
Bergara have new short rifle actions only available for purchase and I was thinking of using this as a basis for a project rifle. Saves having to purchase a donor rifle. Interested in anyone's experience building or re-barrelling of using these actions compared to a Remington 700.

Why are you wanting to use one over a 700?

Can buy just the action only in new condition without having to purchase whole rifle, bolt release on side of action, action identical to 700. I have a semi-custom rifle built on 700, very happy with it.

Not sure of the forum rules about putting up a link to another forum so I won't do it but, there is a Bergara plan of the conical bolt nose relief cut for that action. The thread and major diameter are the same as for a Remington 700. The relief cut is the only significant difference.

Were you able to purchase the action only as new or was it removed from a barreled action?

How much cheaper is just the action?
I buy Walmart 700's sell the barrel for $50 or more. The bolts bring $150+ Ive seen a 223 bolt go for 255!
Just saying that it may be cheaper to buy whole and sell parts . Anything 6.5 brings a premium lol

Where are the actions available for purchase? One of my distributors is selling barreled actions in only a few calibers but not just actions.

I have never seen the actions for sale but, like others, I have seen barreled actions for sale. Brownells has several--some on sale now. The Premier action does have a floating bolt head.

I buy Remington actions direct from Remington. Never have seen Bergara actions for sale.
