Bat action

IMO, where a barrel points in it's static condition means nothing. It's where it points under pressure/vibration that matters.
I think a good read on the subject of threading and barrel pointing static -vs- dynamic was covered in 'Rifle Accuracy Facts'.

Here vaughn's testing results imply that barrel connection integrity matters more than commonly believed & employed.
I'd have to dig it out, but I'd be surprised if barrel nut connection wasn't brought into it.

I agree with you and Vaughn's book is great. Dated, but good food for thought. If a barrel joint is moving we have problems. It should not move, even during firing. All those tiny aggs shot at every Benchrest match are shot with shouldered barrels. Movement in a joint is very easy to spot. You will see "fretting" on the mating surfaces. Very common on main caps on drag engines. I worry much more about a nutted barrel moving. Theres nothing pointing it other than the natural tenancy of threads to self center, which can be overcome pretty easily.

I am thinking of building another rifle, i see Bat is having a sale on some of their actions, so if i make the purchase, would it be practical to install a barrel with the Savage style concept using the nut ect. has anyone ever come across using the Savage nut concept on high end actions

You got a lot of info didn't you? As long as the threads are the same it would work, But I would not spend the money on a custom action and put a less than custom chambered/fit barrel on it. You might find a BAT with Rem 700 size threads where you could use a Remage. You'll have to check.

Just went through a circle track motor with studs and nuts the bearings and main caps never showed any movement . Had 1300 laps on it turning 8800 Rpm. I don't know a engine builder that don't use studs and nuts .
I see John Force even uses studs and nuts.

Makes a lot of sense in an engine. Studs act like alignment pins for lowering the heads, they have a fine thread so they apply more clamping force for the same torque, there is less twisting of the shank which makes for more accurate torquing, they dont wear out the threads on the block.... none of that applies to rifles. I always used studs in my engines too. Made it tough to pull the heads off in the car though ;)

That would also apply to the barrel with a nut
I totally agree Betteris always better .
